@newpipe

How anonymous is Newpipe?
I only use Newpipe with a Anonymous VPN. (Mullvad/Proton)
Is google still able to make a big profile about me?
Does Newpipe clear cookies so that if you restart you have a completely new session?
Is there something like fingerprinting in Newpipe? For example the Language or Settings in Newpipe?

The most anonymous way to watch YouTube is using Tor and Invidious.

I think that Newpipe is way better then directly YouTube, but google will still almost completely track you even when using a VPN.

lemann,

IIRC NewPipe just scrapes the YT website, it doesn’t persist Youtube-specific cookies between interfaces and actions. It’s doing the equivalent of performing each action in a blank slate incognito/private window AFAIK.

Only cookies I’ve seen discussed are recaptcha cookies, which can be cleared in the settings (Settings -> History and Cache -> Clear recapcha cookies) however no cookies of this type are stored unless you have actually solved a captcha in NewPipe

Which FOSS degoogled Android rom would you recommend?

@askandroid

(you can recommend googled roms, just let me know it is)

lemann,

Graphene if you’ve got a recent pixel, e/OS or Lineage (not entirely degoogled??) if you’ve got a Fairphone

For everything else maybe Lineage and do the degoogling manually (if any components remain)? Calyx OS is a thing too, but I don’t hear it discussed a lot nowadays.

the fact that @lemmy bans you tells you everything you need to know about it as a platform. I didn't want to be accusatory when I thought my comments were being deleted but it seems that they were.

lemann,

Which instance? What account name? Modlog link, or timestamp?

Anyone can set up a lemmy instance, and instance admins have the freedom to ban whoever they like for any reason, after all they are literally paying for your privillege to post on their server IMO

lemann,

The community itself has a separate rule 1 which would probably explain the ban

  1. Be civil and nice.

A ban is a bit overkill IMO in either case, but can’t see the full thread context because of a bug in the web UI

I’m guessing quite a few users reported the comment since it was posted 3 days ago, since the ban enacted 20 hours ago is a full instance ban instead of just a community ban…

  • lemann,

NewPipe is the official NewPipe project, who are currently undergoing a massive rewrite IIRC

PipePipe is a fork which adds support for asian video platforms BiliBili and NicoNico - the project readme does note some important caveats

FYI if you see a copy of either of these apps in the Play Store, AppGallery or App Store, it is fake and probably malware. Only download these using the links provided by the original creators on their code repository…

All of what this person said!

I still use public trackers though, mainly because I want my seeds to actually benefit others, not fill up some arbitrary private tracker counter.

    lemann,

Did you try updating it? About 1mo ago a fix was rolled out to patch out a change Youtube made that broke the app for everyone, videos would either not play, or stop playing after a minute or so

Lemmy Admins Are Full Of Shit. They Are Obsessed With Having Power, Silencing Users, Banning Users, And Want To Use A Karma System Like Reddit To Restrict Your Ability To Use Lemmy.

I know I'm being dramatic here, but something just hasn't been sitting well with me ever since I started using Lemmy.

There's just this feeling I get here that the admins have a fucking agenda. And I could be wrong. But I hate bullshiters who won't tell it like it is.

More people need to call admins out on their bullshit. It's getting fucking ridiculous.

And I'm tired of the fucking arrogant attitude that some how running a server and being an admin makes you important in some way as if you're going to be the next elon musk or something. Get over yourselves.

It really feels that there is an ulterior motive based on what I see in the matrix chats.

Admins are not being transparent about there motives.

I'm on pretty much all of the lemmy matrix chats, and all they talk about is restricting the users experience, banning, defederating, purging accounts when they ban them so the user doesn't see why they were banned, and any everything that will put them in a position of power.

I also feel like they have accounts on all the other instances and post other bullshit trying to push their agenda and make these changes seem like a good idea.

Admins, quit fucking bullshitting like you're trying not to be like reddit. Yall seem to wet your panties at the idea of basically being in complete and total control of everything and Ban who ever you want based on your political ideologies.

I'm sure their are some who are not like this.

Im sick of this morally superior attiitude and sense that your beliefs and actions are of greater virtue then everyone else. Yall are smugly moralistic and intolerant of different opinions and its fucking obvious.

Stop being fucking deceitful and tell the goddamn truth.

Please explain to everyone your intentions.

This is just one of many. I attached the rest here. I apologize for any duplicates.

    lemann,

    > joined 21 minutes ago

    > breaking rule 1 and 2 of this community

IMO this belongs somewhere else, like !lemmy or something.

    I have a few questions:

    • What is your agenda?
    • What change(s) are you expecting by showing us this?
    • What takeaways am I expected to pull from those screenshots?
    • Can anyone join the matrix chat? If so, how can we be assured the participants are actually admins?

Also, as always, you are free to join any instance you like, or create your own.

Criticising how other admins choose to run their instance, maintained by themselves & volunteers with their own time, for their own reasons out of their own goodwill, does not make sense when Lemmy is FOSS software, and the fediverse is open.

    What are we?

What do Lemmy users call themselves? What do Kbin users call themselves? What about Mast?

So far I can't come up with anything better than "Fediziens"

    lemann,

    A Fedi user/Fediverse user 😅

The site nicknames don’t work so well IMO especially when we’re basically socializing in the same place using different technologies

30 DAYS TO GET MY DATA! So I put in a data requet last week with reddit and it said it would take a few days. Yesterday I inquired to its status as I had not received anything and they repsonded that it might take 30 days. Im not sure if this is bs to keep their account numbers up or they are just innundated with requests.

    lemann,

I haven't had mine yet (requested about 2 weeks ago), however I've seen one other user mention that they got theirs

I just found another place called Squabbles which seems like a mix of twitter and reddit, with posts and communities but threaded like twitter for its discussions. Is it part of the fediverse? or is it its own thing?

    lemann,

It's not part of the Fediverse, or rather it's a new closed source platform that plans to monetise using ads and subscriptions.

There isn't really a problem with that IMO, as long as it's sustainable and the users' voices are heard. It's not for me personally - I prefer the federated approach taken by Lemmy and Kbin

The developer is really active on it though from what I've read and has been implementing user suggestions at a rapid pace.
