My biggest gripe, as someone who is living in Canada and paying taxes in Canada, is seeing how incredibly biased the #CBC is.
I've watched or listened to CBC news since the 90s. I've seen their coverage of Israel for decades, and now inside Canada I've seen their coverage of the war in Gaza, and I've seen their lack of coverage of #antisemitism .
They simply bury the issue of antisemitism, not covering stories of antisemitic attacks or policies, or they use scary air quotes when discussing it, such as "Jewish groups claim" or they couch antisemitism in terms of Israel's actions- which is itself an antisemitic trope.
Unlike even the Canadian postal service, Canada Post, the CBC is a direct arm of the Canadian government as a Crown Corporation, and yet it continues to directly and indirectly propagate antisemitism through biased reporting and or deliberate omissions in coverage.
It's one of the things I find most shameful about how my tax dollars are used here in #Canada.
@shekinahcancook@serge I think antisemitism, racism and bigotry is disgusting, I don't need to pull any cards. I did a DNA test and found out I have some Ashkenazi heritage, I've been exploring my roots and making a family tree, it's very interesting.
I find the logic here in this post laughable. Biggest gripe a lack of coverage? Not even the issue itself.
@raf@shekinahcancook@serge Am I harassing Jewish people? I thought I was pointing out a logical flaw in the guys reasoning, that his biggest gripe in his whole life as a Jewish man in Canada is a perceived lack of coverage of persecution, not the persecution itself, and nothing else, no, just the lack of coverage on one network.
I didn't realise pointing out how ridiculous this statement is was harassment. I do like the Quantum Blood term, that's pretty cool.
@raf@shekinahcancook@serge Actually I'm just wondering, are you guys being anti-Semitic towards me? I'm feeling a bit harassed, so I just want to check.
Just wondering, if I point out a logical flaw in a Jewish persons sweeping statement and then get a pile on of angry Jews who seemingly assume I'm being anti-Semitic, all frothing at the mouth for an online argument am I allowed to tell them they're being anti-Semitic because of my Jewish heritage or do we have to work out who is more Jewish first? If I'm only 50% and the other guy is 100% do I lose automatically?
Apparently according to one account I'm harassing Jewish people. News to me.
@etherdiver Ugh. How can you be found guilty of all that shit and not be thrown in a prison for a few years? What is wrong with the US Justice system? They throw people who forgot to return library books in prison over there sometimes...
Alright folks, in an effort to in some tiny way counter the fact that everything is awful, I declare this The Thread Of Small Cheering Things! Send your cute animal and pretty flower pics! Bring on the silly memes! Share any bits of good news you manage to unearth! Spread the love! <3
What are your thoughts on self-diagnosis being belittled by many in the autistic community?
For clarity, I’m not asking to start a debate, just a genuine discussion. I currently don’t have the option to get a diagnosis, but feel fairly confident that the research I’ve done over the past year and a half has been legitimate and credible.
I don’t feel comfortable saying that I am definitively autistic, but I am ok with saying I’m “self-suspecting.” #actuallyautistic@actuallyautistic
@chevalier26@actuallyautistic I suppose ultimately, what does it matter what other people think? Personally I see people self diagnosing themselves a lot, and there's some percentage that do it for attention, no doubt, but ignore everyone else. Does it help you or hinder you? Do others need to know?
Hey Fediverse, obscure indie musician with a question and also a little charity do-good everyone happy thing. I originally started sharing my music to raise money for cancer research, it went really well for the year I did it, I'm looking for suggestions for other good causes, small charities to donate to using my music. Until I decide on one, for the next week if you buy any of my music via Band/Faircamp, I'll give 50% to Wikipedia! Reposts help! https://faircamp.radiofreefedi.net/limnetic/ https://limneticvillains.bandcamp.com/
Why Wikipedia? Well, I think it's great, and Ive donated to them before. I think it's one of the few solid areas of the modern internet that is not only universally useful to people of all ages as an education tool but also as somewhere interesting to get lost and read oddness, for utterly nothing. I think it's good to help them out with their server costs and if selling my music can aid them and me, why not? I think it's a worthy cause, and it's a win for everybody.
While I'm at it, I may as well post some of my side projects in this thread too, the same goes for these, any money that comes in over the next week from the 23rd of May, half will go to Wikipedia, and I'll post the receipt! :)
Just finished this hooded baby wrap for a work friend. The ears have made it way more 'baby yoda' than I intended and I'm trying to decide whether a simple embroidered face would help or not
Hey Fediverse. Obscure Irish indie musician here trying to sell my music so I can keep my belly full of decent food. Here's my offer for Bandcamp Friday the 3rd of May 2024. 80% off my entire discography. That's 13 albums ranging from alty electronic rock to thumpy psychedelic electro dance to weird gothic experimental arthouse stuff. Price reverts back to full after the weekend. If even 3 people buy my discography that's a weeks worth of food, and that would be amazing. Http://limneticvillains.bandcamp.com
I am also very grateful to anybody who has previously bought my music, people have helped me raise money for the Irish Cancer Society, they've bought my music when I needed to buy my other half birthday gifts, hell sometimes they've even bought it because they like the music!
I also have a Faircamp page, I understand what it's like to not have any money, so feel free to grab an album from here for utterly nothing if you like the music and aren't in a position to buy it! https://faircamp.radiofreefedi.net/limnetic/
Check out these shoes I'll never buy because they're way too expensive. I wouldn't usually post about how cool some random overpriced shoes are, but yeah, I like these and I'll never own them.
One of my best friends was seeing a guy for about a month. She came down to visit me with another of our friends. She owed her new boyfriend 25 euro from the day before and the guy was pestering her about it the very next day, so we thought it would be a harmless and mildly funny joke to send him 24.99. We laughed and thought nothing of it. Innocent little har har thing.
Well, one of his best friends starts sending my friend abuse, calling her all sorts of names and asking who raised her...
