It’s impossible to target all of them, yes. But that’s why BDS creates a targeted list of the worst offenders to concentrate consumer boycott pressure.
President Joe Biden is reportedly seeking to revive a project that would construct a high-speed railway from Houston to Dallas in Texas utilizing Japanese bullet trains....
That would be awesome, but I think the best value would be with a run up the northeast (DC-Baltimore-Philly-NYC-Boston). All massive population centers close together.

I definitely consume too much dystopian content to be a fair dystopian barometer, but the sheer amount of ads being pushed my way is starting to make me feel legitimately anxious. It feels like a techno-dystopia where all of the neat and artistic elements have been extracted and then ground into dust for our corporate overlords....
There’s an awesome tool I use to automate this process called TubeArchivist. Automatically downloads new videos from subscribed channels or playlists. Downloads the metadata, thumbnail, and comments too.
It has a built in viewer that works fine so I haven’t tried getting the content into my Plex server, but I’ve seen people in the discord talking about doing it.

I am failing to see the interest in having tons of IOT devices to manage, connect, segment, etc… Why would someone want to do it? To be clear, I have friends deep in it but… I still don’t understand. Can anyone try to explain the magic I am failing to see?...
For me it’s a fun hobby, plain and simple. Some people like maintaining saltwater tanks, some people like miniature train sets, I like maintaining a smart home and automating repeat tasks.
Thankfully I don’t use any of their products, but this really pisses me off. They claim that this open source project “causes significant economic harm to their company”...
I don’t have any Haier products but as a Chamberlain/MyQ garage door owner I can relate all too well. At least ratgdo is an option for the garage doors, I doubt there’s anything nearly as simple for the Haier users.
It can be done right: local only connections (no cloud), segmented vlan for iot devices with strict firewall rules, Internet access blocked for anything that doesn’t need it, etc.
Unfortunately that takes a lot of knowledge and effort. The cloud based devices that phone home every few minutes are preconfigured and just work, so most people will just use that and not think about it.
Tbf the people at the end of this line will wait maximum 20 minutes. They can achieve this because instead of doing the typical intercom->window fast food setup they have employees outside walking between cars and putting the order into iPads, then another set walking food to your car.
On another note, those outdoor employees are regularly forced to stay outside in extreme heat and cold without proper protection. If they want to wear a jacket it has to be a Chick-fil-A jacket, which they have to buy from the company. Lots of videos online about people working the drive thru line.
What times your lights are on or off can expose more than you might think over time. It reveals when you’re gone for work, your sleep schedule, how many days a year you spend at home vs traveling/elsewhere, when you stay up late, etc.
But it gets worse. If you give Hue your email or install the app then now you can be uniquely id’d across other products. Hue will sell that data to some advertising agency, who also buys data from Google, Facebook, etc. Now your usage data from other systems can be combined with the Hue data and used to more even more accurately track your day and behaviors.

I have a Logi G935. G Hub has finally stopped pooping the bed and is decent software now. But after a bit over 3 years the G935 has worn out - it’s full of loose connections to the right-side earcup and the mic. Very disappointing. Also the earpads are flaking, but that’s normal wear....
I moved away from “Gaming headsets” years ago and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. Bad audio quality, connection issues, and poor longevity are rampant problems.
I’m an advocate for a desktop mic and a nice set of headphones. I use a blue yeti snoball and a pair of Sony Wh1000-xm3’s. I am considering upgrading to some open back Sennheisers though.
The main disadvantage is that you can’t walk to the kitchen/bathroom and keep talking in discord but it’s well worth it for audio quality and longevity.

I bought my two sensors two years ago now. Haven't had to replace the batteries yet and no connection issues or anything. I use one of them to turn on the lights at my front door when I open it and it's always done it's job quickly. Z-wave so ofc you'll need a dongle.

I see stories about how election is rigged or that there are security vulnerabilities and lots of people don't believe the outcome. Why don't they just open source everything so that anyone can look at the code and be sure the votes are tallied correctly?
We do, there are very few counties in the US that are actually fully digital (stupid idea IMHO). The majority are paper ballots which are scanned into the machine for fast counting. The original paper the voter filled out is then stored in case it needs to be checked against the machine count for accuracy.
I'm not seeing any posts after the blackout except the "Vote for the future of the sub" post. Seems like they nuked everything after the sub came back online.

Since that preference is set at a user level you could probably set it from a browser then jerboa will pick up on it. That assumes the bug is jerboa actually updating the setting but hopefully that'll work.
