I guess it’d be more appropriate to say that it’s difficult to be an ethical consumer under capitalism? Or maybe it’s difficult to be an ethical consumer period?

I don’t know what a better system looks like. But waiting for companies to magically become ethical on their own doesn’t seem to be working.

How often to you bail on a half-written post or response?

I have had a tendency since my earliest days on social media where I will get halfway or more through a response, and end up just cancelling it. Sometimes I feel like I’m just being to over the top with snark or otherwise don’t want to be that kind of person, but a lot of the time I’ll decide I just really don’t care...

depends. on political posts it’s like 90% bail rate, because i get done typing a message and then realize i’m just feeding into the outrage machine.

I got that training when I was a university student a while back. Officer Friendly came and showed us a video about it in the seminar room.

When you hear gunshots, you’re supposed to run away (if it seems safe), or hide somewhere and barricade yourself in (if you can’t run), or try to surprise and fight off the gunman (if you think your hiding spot is about to be discovered).

I asked if I should run in a straight line or in a zigzag pattern or something. The officer said it’s best to run for cover. I asked what to do if there was no cover. I forget what the advice for that situation was. I think the officer said people’s aim sometimes isn’t that great.

I guess it’s better than freezing and waiting to die.

Coffee, work from home, a somewhat flexible schedule that lets me start a little later if I need to, and strategic use of sick time when I get really out of sync.

Unless you were asking about free time. In which case, it helps to know where all the 24-h and open-way-late businesses are, and to have plenty of hobbies to pass the time while everyone else is busy sleeping.
