Reluctantly realizing we need a marketing name for minimal zero-dependency Vanilla Web Components that progressively enhance from Light DOM 😬

@zachleat Vanilla DOM?

Because naming things is hard.

@mahryekuh A question concerning your talk at : Why did you use a separate isort instead of the built-in isort-rules from ruff? I am sure you mentioned it, but I don't remember the answer.

mahryekuh, (edited )
@mahryekuh@fosstodon.org avatar

@oliverandrich Good question! I haven’t tried the built-in isort yet, but might for my own projects.

However. I don’t always put Ruff into legacy projects because it will throw more issues than the team is willing (or has money) to fix. A separate isort is nice in such cases.

@mahryekuh@fosstodon.org avatar

@oliverandrich That’s awesome! It’s such a blessing in the long run.

@SuitedUpDev Die is wel mooi gelukt; precies nadat de host per ongeluk het antwoord op de Kahoot-vraag spoilerde (het antwoord was "Python") en er een fotograaf voor onze bakkes stond. Timing 💯

HTTPuns before this toot.

@mahryekuh@fosstodon.org avatar

Meanwhile, I'm unironically using the almighty Wikipedia for reference.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes

It might not be a development website, but its list of HTTP status codes is still one of my favorite overviews.

mahryekuh,
@mahryekuh@fosstodon.org avatar

@SuitedUpDev You're not the first to mention that one! (See responses to my one toot up)

I shall take this as a sign to use more HTTP cats.

@SuitedUpDev Lucky you. Mine usually DGAF 😂

@seldo I don't see them either. Unrelated, it's a great picture!

It's a good day when you work on an older codebase and see several lines you can delete.

For example, I recently realized I'd hard-coded several views for reasons that could be solved within .as_view() in the URLs module.

Not that I will actually fix them today; it is a side project, after all, but that aside. 😇

mahryekuh,
@mahryekuh@fosstodon.org avatar

@webology I had a colleague who could make such fancy refactor tools in vim. He's a wizard, and I could never.

I usually postpone such refactors until it's necessary. Or, in the case of personal projects... until I've beaten ADHD for a good few hours.

“The funnier it is in the beginning of a story, the more dramatic it can become. Because when an audience is laughing, that's opening their souls somehow, and when you have an audience with an open soul, it's much better to hit them with a knife.”

Fatih Akin (movie director) has a pretty effective philosophy :)

    Anyone else see "AI" and just switch off?

    If I'm looking for some new software or a SaaS, or I open an article and it mentions AI, I immediately go back or close the tab. I'm just so fed up of it appearing in everything.

    I get it has a use (I wouldn't even say it's a purpose) but it seems some products have gone hard on it and I'm just bored of hearing about it now.

    @mikestreety Yes, same with "blockchain" and "smart." However, I'll give the latter a chance.

    @mikestreety Smart technology powered by AI on the blockchain! We have no clue what it does but it's the best and using these words gets us funding!

    @mahryekuh@fosstodon.org avatar

    @adamchainz @webology That's a pretty impressive statistic.

    I haven't tried mypy strict mode yet in bigger projects; there are a lot of tools I daren't run on legacy projects because it's usually "fix these 2000 issues of missing types or documentation" 🥲
