majestictechie,

Shave with double edged razors. The razors are more extensive (compared to disposable anyway) but you’ll save money on the blades.

I bought a razor for £30 and £7 on 100 blades. That was 12 years agoml. I’m 2/3 the way through my razor pack.

I found no difference in how close of a shave I got and while it takes a bit more skill, I got the handle of it after a few shaves.

The Sign (lemmy.stuart.fun)

For context, in case you don’t have kids (therefor you probably don’t watch Bluey), the family in the car (the Heelers) was selling their house to move for a job but ultimately, the dad (Bandit) decided staying at their house with family was more important. As a final act of demonstration, he lifts the for-sale sign out of...

majestictechie,

I see bluey, I upvote. What a beautiful episode that was

majestictechie,

If you don’t have phone Sims/phone numbers then you can use something like Mumble.

I setup my own server locally and have a VPN to it. My kids phone can connect then and we can talk over a local LAN or with a VPN if I’m elsewhere.

Other than that. Discord?

What apps would you love to have open-source alternatives for?

It seems like the FOSS community is continuing to grow, and FOSS apps keep getting better (Immich reallh blew my mind recently), which is a big win 😎 but there are still many apps I use that I would kill for an open source alternative. I am curious what you guys think? Are there any apps you’d love alternatives for?

majestictechie,

zulip.com is likely your best alternative. It’s more a Slack copy than Discord but the features are there

Email service that integrates well with Thunderbird?

I hope I’m not annoying you kind folks too much with my ongoing Tutamail woes, but, in the long slow process of divorcing myself from them (and returning to Thunderbird), I’m looking for an email host/provider that integrates well with TB, meaning that it can sync mail, contacts, calendars, and tasks between the Linux...

majestictechie,

So any web host that uses cPanel should be a good thing. IMAP for mail, Caldav for Calendars and Cardav for contacts. It’s what I use anyway and haven’t had any issues

majestictechie, (edited )

I found its privacy settings too restrictive. I ended up moving to Floorp which is much closer to the Vanilla FF

majestictechie,

I went from the 3a to the 7a. The 3a was a nicer phone. I miss the fingerprint scanner on the back

majestictechie,

I’m way over this. I keep a lot of it standard now except some interface changes. Less things to break then

majestictechie,

I felt the only series good season was 1. The last one was terrible, so I think I’ll give 5 a miss.

Strange new Worlds is dope though.

majestictechie,

Signal is no longer requiring phone numbers as of V7, so you could just wait for that to get released.

majestictechie,

I like to play with labels on my clothes. Rubbing labels which are abrasive is comforting.

Privacy benefits of Custom roms

So recently my moto G60 reached the end of life with respect to security updates. That was the reason I was using to prevent myself from switching to a custom rom(actual reason is laziness). This phone has rom support for pixel experience and lineage OS. So my questions are if pixel experience has any privacy advantages when...

majestictechie,

The OS itself is private because it’s DeGoogled. I also installed GApps because I wanted the convinence of the App store and core feature I’ve been used to for so long.

I also knew the moment I did the google-fication privacy was out the window.

I was fine with LineageOS and would happily go back when my Pixel7a becomes EOL.

majestictechie,

Looking up at the stars at night

majestictechie,

I was thinking the same, but I don’t really see my neighbours standing out in their garden in the middle of the night just staring at the sky

majestictechie,

I’ve seen a lot of gross stuff, but diturbing? The guy eating another man on a train. Dudes just flailing while he has chunk bitten out of him, everyone on the tube is just filling on their phones.

majestictechie,

Yeah, plus given you can get pro for free it really seems more like a announcement than an ad. Slippery slope though.

majestictechie,

Before the days of the Internet, a “'magazine” was a big bundle of paper full of articles you could get shipped to your door, sort of like if you printed out a website.

Wow.

majestictechie,

I remember I had a TV when I was younger with a coat hanger in the back

majestictechie,

It’s one of the reasons on my next rebuild I’ll be moving off Ubuntu. I always used Ubuntu because it was stable and you can find articles for almost anything. But there’s some great distros out there now and I don’t like Snaps.

I’m waiting for the next Build of POP OS which should be out soon and I’ll hop over to that probably in the new year.

majestictechie,

Just turned 30. I have a house, a kid and a wife. I still don’t feel like an “Adult”

majestictechie,

Doesn’t viewing by “All” show all subs in the feed
