Fledgling trans girl that likes to talk nerdy, perform tech wizardry, do mad science, post occasional anti-capitalist and climate-rage induced rants, and show off her latest Lego builds. There will be selfies.

Swears like a sailor, so you best be okay with that.

neil, to internet

I appreciate that this is going to upset some people, and I thought I was too shy to say it, but I prefer over :

Here's why:

@neil You make some very compelling points :blobthinkingcool:

I purchased this pin specifically for Pride. I will admit that my name is unusual and makes people think they misheard me when they ask me for my name.

What do YOU think of my first name?

@TheLetterTen 10/10 would recommend

Well the good news is I'm a good candidate for facial hair removal. The bad news is the full guaranteed treatment is 3900 dollars! I can afford it, but then I think about how that could be payments towards a car or things we need for the house. It just makes me feel like such a burden.

malcircuit,
@malcircuit@thingy.social avatar

@Tweetfiction

You aren't a burden! Yeah, you could spend money on something else, but is that something else going to make you feel as good as getting rid of your facial hair? Don't be afraid to do something for yourself. You're worth it :QueerCatHeart_Trans:

Okay here we go. I am weirdly very nervous and excited to see what happens, much more than even when I started hrt.

@wren I'm sure you'll be fine. I hope it helps :QueerCatHeart_Trans:

Employee, to HR: Hey, I'm having a mental health thing right now and it's interfering with my job. I already have a doc and therapist that are helping me. I'm literally doing everything I can on my end to get past this. Is there any other options to help mitigate the impact to my job (i.e., ways to help heal without getting fired)?

HR: Check out our EAP website! It's super helpful!

EAP website: Have you tried eating healthier and exercising? Ever heard of this great thing called "mindfulness"?

Okay, so Top Gun: Maverick is actually pretty epic

I just realized that calling something "epic" probably instantly identifies me as a millenial lol :blobsweat:

I think I figured out a possible career route that could be good for me: lab tech. Like, a technician in a physics lab. Setting up equipment and experiments, gathering data, maybe designing and building some basic electronics systems. Kind of like all of the stuff that a physicist does, except for designing the actual experiments, and analyzing and understanding the results (I find all of those overwhelming).

I've enjoyed stuff like that in the past.

malcircuit,
@malcircuit@thingy.social avatar

It's hard because I kind of like doing tedious, detail-oriented stuff, but it also has to be complex or interesting enough not to be completely boring (welcome to , Mal).

A lot of roles in engineering tend to lean more towards the complex end of the spectrum. Like, it's expected to be able to deal with ambiguity and unstructured environments — to kind of lead people (if only yourself). I've discovered I'm worse at that than I thought. I kind of just want someone to tell me what to do.

I'm not really sure how to go about getting a job like that's not just a low wage thing, though. It seems like the jobs I find when I search for something like that either want an Associate's Degree or a PhD. There doesn't seem to be a lot in between lol

Or it's a part time thing for a university — basically a job for a grad student. Sorry, I'd like benefits please

It's always a good start to the day when you wake up from a dream that's so intense and pointed that you just start crying immediately 😭

Want to be permanently obsessed with excellence and achievement, to your own detriment? Simply go back in time and fill your youth with feelings of intellectual inadequacy and failure.

Soon you too will be compelled to move to ever greater levels of "success" because nothing is ever "good enough" to fill the void in your soul

@Tweetfiction @Terra

You have no control of how others think or feel. You do not owe them an explanation. An explanation implies that one is needed — that you have to justify yourself. There is nothing wrong with being trans, no need to justify anything. Either they accept you, or they don't, and that's completely up to them.

My radical leftist economic opinion:

All people, regardless of whether or not they are able to work, should have enough money for food, clothing, shelter, electricity, HVAC, healthcare (including mental health), childcare, transportation, internet, and self-care (a.k.a., leisure or "fun").

And if "the market" can't afford to pay people that much, then some (or all) of those things should be free and universally available.

There's a lot about me that has changed about me in 5 years (2 years HRT), but one thing that hasn't is that I still like blue 💙
