It’s rare that I play games in the year of their release, but I’m making an exception for Prince of Persia: the Lost Crown, as I bought it on day 1 and only just getting round to starting it.

Found it tough going at the start (I’ve never been good at parry timing in games), but slowly working my way through. Switched the dialogue audio to Farsi for a more authentic experience.

Finished What Remains of Edith Finch on the Steam Deck over the last couple of nights. A short walking sim/light puzzle game where the protagonist attempts to unravel a mystery about why everyone in her extended family has died.

Quite poignant and eerie, I enjoyed it a lot!

Finally finished BioShock tonight after 17 years and two previous failed attempts!

Finally clicked as I played it more like an immersive sim than a straight FPS, and while it has some flaws (endless pipe mania, basically a corridor shooter and slightly awkward combat), the visual design, plasmids and tonics elevated it into something more than the sum of its parts.

1/2

Kickstarted my collection with some cheap games from CeX — average price, £2!

Bounced off it hard during the 360 era but I’m rinsing through Alan Wake Remastered this weekend! Completed one episode last night and two more today. After some frustrating encounters early on when I didn’t understand the mechanics very well, I’ve been gripped since then!

I would happily main Vengeance Mercy in standard games, she’s amazingly busted! https://streamable.com/8uu7or

I’ve just been on my monthly pilgrimage to Arnold CeX and this is what I’ve returned with (except the cat, which was here beforehand).

The same scene as the previous image, just with different games! Alien: Isolation, Shadow of Mordor, Driveclub Special Edition and BIoShock Collection, all for the PS4.

It’s taken since last July because I don’t often get the to myself, but I finally finished and INTERmission! I loved most of it except a couple of the late-game bosses. Looking forward to playing CC Reunion next.

Believe it or not I’m starting 1 tonight! Using the Fixt mod package on the Steam Deck.

A pretty good colour match considering the GameCube has probably faded over time.

I am absolutely thrilled with this haul! I had a black when they were current, but was always envious of those with the indigo version. Got a high quality RGB SCART cable on its way too. Can’t wait to try it out!

I’ve created a music-focused alt: @matteblack — feel free to follow me there. I’ll post about metal but also a lot of other adjacent and semi-adjacent genres too (entirely likely anything tbh).

I’ll probably start sharing some of my own music too but don’t let that put you off!

My wife bought me the Taito Edition Super Pocket for my birthday and it’s a lovely little handheld. It has 17 pre-installed games and takes Evercade cartridges.

It literally fits in my pocket and will be great for travelling when I don’t have room for a giant modern handheld!

The same console as the previous image. It is at the game select menu and Puzzle Bobble is selected.
The rear of the console. It is entirely turquoise with black shoulder and volume buttons. It has a Blaze blanking plate where the Evercade carts go and SUPER POCKET is embossed below.

Playing Roboquest at the moment with a friend on PC. It’s a fast-paced, cel-shaded co-op roguelite FPS. Took a while to get its hooks into me but really enjoying it now. There are multiple classes and each run is unique as you get offered different weapons and perks as you go through your run.

There are also new abilities that stay between runs, which means you get further and further as you play, through a combination of learning the enemies & terrain but also with better gear.

How my wife closes the curtains v how I close the curtains. Please tell me I am doing it right. The alternative upsets me so much!

Closed curtains above a purple sofa with teal cushions. They are tucked behind the radiator, straight and there are no gaps.

I have finished the main game of Monster Hunter: World. What is better value, Iceborne at £13 or Monster Hunter: Rise at £10?

Just started Steins;Gate on the and it’s gripped me much more from the start than Chaos;Head did. It probably helps that while the protagonist is still a tool, he’s not quite as cringe as Takumi.
