April was busy, partly because of a big developmental edit.
Today, I start a fun copyedit—a fantasy book for children! So I grab my favorite editing-related mug and eagerly join the young protagonist in a new, magical world.
Let’s play the Monday #MovieQuoteGame – I post a quote from a well-known movie. If you know where it’s from, post another quote from the same movie. We’ll keep the game going as long as people know quotes from the film.
@cthellis@Musicappreciat7 I mean, that's fair. I wasn't even sure if anyone used it much anymore or if it is worthwhile as an alternate chat software. :akkoShrug:
@sapphicselene It was a multi-part change. Early in the week, they removed the penalties for Pastors who performed same-sex marriages and / or penalties for ordaining openly LGBTQ+ clergy. The last days ended with more affirmation language for Queer Methodists. However, the language in what passed still allows pastors to not perform same-sex marriages if they don't want to, which isn't as great. https://www.umnews.org/en/news/united-methodists-remove-same-sex-wedding-ban
However, this is a BIG, good step for the UMC.
The large number of churches that left to join the "Global Methodist Church" helped shift the UMC's theology to be more liberal on these issues.
@sapphicselene Non-denominational means that the local church isn't part of a larger group like the UMC, SBC, etc. The term is pretty generic and while I know it has some implications, it doesn't actually tell you about church theology.
There are, however, a LOT of non-denominational churches that are fundy churches. I'm lucky to have found one that is not. And also happens to do credobaptism (i.e. baptism by immersion when you individually accept Jesus).
