I was told once that Mastodon is a friendly void that yells back. I really like that.

The world is a big place filled with terrible and wonderful things. I sometimes comment on them at length.

I have been relatively music-less today. Apologies, here is what has been echoing through my head today.

All day on repeat actually.

Have y'all ever had someone act like you were hurting them somehow by just liking a food?

Any time I buy or make kimchi, my Mom says it's so gross and she doesn't want any and just on and on. I never offer it to her, or make group food with it, but for some reason she seems offended by it, and I don't know why.

mentallyalex,
@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr It sounds like your mother needs exposure therapy. The poor lady is having sudden and uncontrollable tummy problems - that could be serious and you should, take it seriously.

Daily, regimented, limited but deep exposure to kimchi is the only answer. Perhaps sign her up for a kimchi newsletter, or make a daily reminder to send her a quick video or photo of some random recipe you find.

Is there a "Kimchi Daily" bot on Mastodon? Because there might be - sign her up! She gave you life, the least you can do is give her uninterrupted exposure of kimchi so that she may learn that it exists, it's around, and a visceral response is likely unwarranted. :blobcatsip:

@RickiTarr My diet consists of fish and fish-like creatures and plants so basically... plants.

Most of my protein makes the more picky scream, squirm, wiggle, or freak out. Even mature and relatively calm individuals will look at me with a mixture of awe and disgust when they discover that I may have added TOFU. (Oh dear god no! Not the bean slurry, oh havens whatever will we do)

I have literally had a visceral reaction from someone when they learned that I was quite able and content to eat such alien fare as "Tacos".

> But yeah, people don't seem to understand why cubes of fried hard tofu are snack-tier for me.

We live in a society that has normalized extracting the "the seeds of a fruit, grinding it and cooking it until it is sand and then soaking that sand over time with heated water to extract a black liquid that we consume in order to recover from being asleep.

We live in an age in which we capture baby-feeding nutrient juices that we trick parent animals into producing, that we then allow to rot in numerous ways so that we can extract a particular 'hint of' in our primary meal.

Our daily society involves people who subside on chemicals of bubbly brown liquid... yet people turn their noses up and ask me how I could "handle" a salad. It... it's very weird.

I definitely understand the connect and yes, tofu is pretty blah if you just open the package and get to snacking.

The "TL;DR" -
Get Light Life crumbles
McCormick Taco Seasoning
extra splash of water

Toss the crumbles into an oiled pan and immediately add the taco seasoning and the water. Stir it together to make it all nice and combined and then heat it up. A few minutes later when its heated...mind blown people.

"That being the case," he yells from the rooftops. Alex had hoped his melodic and dulcet tones would allow his voice to be heard, this time.

If you prepare your tofu even an iota the returns are wonderful. Meat sub crumbles look/feel mostly like ground beef and if you slap some cumin, red pepper, black pepper, salt, etc. onto them -- add a little water and then let things come together... it's BETTER than the meat based taco meat you have lived your life eating. I have served my tacos to approx. 40 people from all walks of life and i have never once had a serious complaint. I had one guy who swore he could taste it but his wife said he was just being a baby. :blobcatgiggle: Children from age 4 up to I can promise you at least I think he was 15?

I don't surprise anyone, I just ask them to try it or I confirm its okay from their parent/guardian/spouse. Normal everything else you'd find on a taco or breakfast tacos.

I use the crumbles and the prep time is technically faster than meat-based.

So brick tofu (the stuff you get in the store that looks like a grey cube) is just unprocessed at all. It would be akin to taking fine ground hamburger meat, boiling it, shoving it into a cube and then cooking with it. You can but you want to prep a bit first.

For that what I do, does not require a Buddhist temple or even really a profoundly introspective person. My Zara cat is, at this very moment, staring at a bunny as it plays in the yard and does not seem the least bit ashamed that this rodent is mocking her. She helps me make this stuff all the time.

Take the brick out of the water. Put some papertowels on a plate and put the tofu on the paper towels. Put more towels on top of it and put another plate on top of napkin.

Desc:

plate
napkin
tofu
napkin
plate

Let it sit for a while and the water will be pushed out of it. Cube it, toss it into some hot veggie oil for a minute or so and then you're done. Toss into whatever you are cooking. It'll be great.

@StillIRise1963 Rage baiting has earned a lot of people a lot of money. The retail market is trying its hand at it.

"It is always easier to tear down other peoples ideas than to build one of your own."

I'm sure it has been said before, but I don't know by who. Whoever it was, they were right.

Cybertrucks are vulnerable to rusting in the rain, correct?

A flatbed was stranded on the side of the road as it was raining on it and the cybertruck it carried.

I'm curious what this means. If the truck rusts, did the owner strike it lucky by being able to hold the tow truck liable? IS the truck liable?

I imagine the situation is a bad to worse, typically people do not have flatbeds towing their healthy vehicles.

mentallyalex,
@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

@ralfmaximus agreed. I don't particularly think the driver was malicious, it looked like a situation in which all parties were thinking "well now what".

But I imagine the damages will temper the cybertruck owners tolerance.

@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

Or be old enough to remember the last time we tried a stainless steel vehicle.

I have been vocal in my disinterest in general with the Tesla brand, but the cybertruck is just... ridiculous.

I read that originally as "Moss Boss" and had a very fun Al Capone image come to my mind.

Remnants of bushy mossy hair under a fadora hat. Walking confidently along the forest floor running scams on the rabbits and pressing the local rodent communities for their stores for winter.

"In case of accidents," He says, chuckling to himself.

mentallyalex,
@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

@Skepticat the foxes are SOO not friendly. They are so easy to buy off, everyone in the forests knows Moss Boss paid them off long ago.

The Squirrel Mother said, and I tend to agree, that it was actually turtles that originally radicalized the frogs. They were used to hiding in the ponds and undergrowth, but the Moss Boss just wrecked the mushroom markets with his enforcement fees and extortion schemes. Then they got to the turtles...it was too much.

mentallyalex,
@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

@aria_unbound :ablobcatnod:
How else do you think he pays everyone off? whoever controls the markets, controls the forests!

@Skepticat

mentallyalex,
@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

@Skepticat and Moss Boss would need to be checked in approachable ways. Depending on how many stories I found in here, maybe pivot him into a comical bad guy instead of killing him. Jail that he escapes from or narrowly avoids arrest by learning his lesson, etc.

Reluctant support perhaps eventually if he became approachable... maybe?

mentallyalex,
@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

@Skepticat I genuinely appreciate your kindness, thank you.

I'll gather my words and put them on a page and flesh it out. It's a fun story that I want to tell.
