The world is a big place filled with terrible and wonderful things. I sometimes comment on them at length.

I saw a meme a moment ago, discussing various ways you can keep your neighbors at bay. In this case, it was appearing just slightly unhinged so they won't want to engage. :blobcatgiggle:

I laughed, it's funny, but while I was boosting and favoring it made me think about my new home. I moved in a small bit ago and I have still yet to meet all but one retiree.

No one says hello, no one stopped to welcome me or ask questions. A few have waved as they drive by and park in their garages. But they shut the doors as their cars are shutting down. I was three states away from this place a year ago and the neighborhood was much the same.

I remember when neighbors were bothersome. When you would come home and find someone sitting outside or walking their dog and they would want to strike up a conversation.

I'm curious how things will look in coming years. Will we form tighter groups with our neighborhoods, or will we further splinter, I wonder...

@ItsThatDeafGuy I don't disagree. I think social media and others have done far more to divide us than bring us together, as we had hoped.

@justafrog I disagree with you, but I don't disagree that they feel this way.

We constantly form long-term relationships with people who happen to live in the same place. We just gate those relationships and tell ourselves they aren't meaningful.

"They aren't friends, they are WORK friends. When they are fired or I am fired we will suddenly lack anything to discuss. We spoke so frequently about non-work stuff AT work that HR asked us if we were dating - but now that we are not being paid to collaborate, I won't speak to them again"

Saying “I support the right of Jewish people to exist” is already a little weird to me since I don’t see that as questionable (guess it is for some) but it definitely sounds bad if you add a “but” on the end. That’s not as supportive as you think it is, people who keep saying it.

So, does Discord no longer allowed users to register accounts without registering a phone number?

They have "detected an anomaly" with a new account I just attempted to make and have assured me that I can quickly clear things up if I just give them a phone number.

I do like how the companies out there assume that people just simply won't replace them with other choices.

@dogzilla It has its purposes similar to places like here for some.

For others they use it as immediate information transfer with friends and family they are not immediately next too. It can be a private area where you are able to communicate using a persona that is unlike your physical form - I could see that being useful to others.

There are a lot of places in which Discord and tools like it are useful. They become less useful when they decided they are a requirement.

When has "It is already solved" ever stopped a business from doing things they can charge you for?

Discord, Slack and others are better alternatives for instant communication with large groups than getting onto Facebook. Others aren't nearly as well marketed.

The most ridiculous thing about cop procedural shows is when they ask where a person was, and what they were doing at a specific time the person always has perfect and immediate recall. I'd be desperately trying to remember what day of the week that was, and trying to open my phone calendar. If I was the cop, I'd immediately be suspicious of the person who remembered exactly where they were and what they were doing.

So I was walking idly through a mall in Joplin Missouri, just killing time after a day at the install site. I walk by a and see they're going bankrupt. Oh, well so goes the mall stores. Then I saw this crazy sign about it and it linked to a substack about what happened.
