I was told once that Mastodon is a friendly void that yells back. I really like that.

The world is a big place filled with terrible and wonderful things. I sometimes comment on them at length.

WHAT IS HIS CRIME?!

Feminists taught me that Mad Max Fury Road is not a feminist movie. I get that.

Fury Road was just an action movie where the violent protagonist was a woman with a visible disability, instead of an able bodied man. I get that.

But I still enjoy the fact that George Miller looked at all the dudes that got angry that a woman was the star of a Mad Max movie, and said "Cry about it!" and doubled down.

I am so watching this.

So, I went to this beautiful dairy yesterday, and when I got out of the car, one at a time about six dogs of various sizes and types come out to greet me. The last one was a little weiner dog, who just kept barking, and I was worried I was offending him in some way. The owner came out, and said, "Oh don't worry about that, he just loves attention, and belly rubs, but he doesn't know how to get them, so he just keeps barking, and scares people."
And sure enough the moment I crouched down, he stopped barking and rolled on his back for belly scratches. Anyway, I relate to this dog.

"We should not in good conscience support or consume the art someone created if they are a piece of crap in reality. One of the reasons some of these horrible celebrities feel empowered to continue their deviant behavior is because they know they will continue to have supporters no matter what, and those supporters will continue to put money in their pockets.”

Often people mention the "pocket people" who live in their phones, or greet "the people who live in my phone" and as one of those people...

I kind of like that idea. It's weird, I know, but it's kind of funny to me imagining that there exists a tiny world a bit like that Emoji movie, in which little digital versions of us exist.

Are they partial or almost complete mimics? Do they realize they are digital ghosts? Would these tiny little versions of ourselves be playing the roles we present to the world, or living authentically? I want to read the story of these worlds...

Burn the planet for shareholder value! Woo!!

Microsoft released its 2024 Sustainability Report. Last year, Microsoft's emissions went up 29%, and it used 23% more water, primarily due to "new technologies, including generative AI."

I know everyone hates AI and I get it, I really do. I'm not trying to diminish people's concerns. All I'm saying is I tried a month of Midjorney to see what all the fuss was about and I blew through my credits in two days generating pictures of people covered in spaghetti.

So perhaps this is a cautionary tale after all.

Just FYI - My Avi is not an AI, it's an actual art made by an actual artist: Jennifer Miller. I didn't have to commission it because she had already painted an image of a Velocirooster. I asked for her permission to use it and she very graciously agreed. I also bought a print of it so I could send some money her way.

She's a fantastic artist so you should go to her website and buy her art:

The US government is ending the program that provides free COVID vaccines to people who are uninsured and underinsured.

This is a public health failure that will further decrease already low vax rates, and puts marginalized communities at greater risk.

Such moral cowards running New York University -- ordering student protestors to write phony apologies.

This is right out of the authoritarian playbook -- and it craps on every notion of freedom of expression.

You don't have to agree with the protestors' politics. But you should damn well understand that America is in wave of McCarthyism right now.

“Do you hear that?” I ask, cocking my head to one side. “Hear what?” responds Jen, curious. I look toward the door. “I think it’s a…” I trail off. Jen, turning to follow my gaze, confusedly mumbles “a what?” From the other end of the house, my voice, muffled by the sheet and duvet, can barely be heard: “a nap.” Then, nothing but a soft snore.
