A Boeing 747-400 with 468 people aboard was forced to make an emergency landing in Indonesia on Wednesday after one of its engines caught fire and began shooting out flames during takeoff....
The last 747-400 passenger plane rolled off the production line in 2005. This is either going to be a maintenance issue or the engine ingesting debris or a bird, not faulty construction. Boeing doesn’t even make the engines, it’s either GE, Pratt & Whitney, or Rolls Royce, depending on the original owner’s preference.
Every time a Boeing plane has issues these days people are quick with low effort “Boeing bad” posts. Maintenance isn’t Boeing’s responsibility, it’s the airline’s.
Fed up, or desperate to add an emotional kick to the pants. (See the Defiant getting rocked by the Borg cube in First Contact, with no noticeable damage on DS9, but getting taken out by the Breen, only to be replaced two weeks later, with only new carpet to show for it.)
Well, now that the audit’s over, there’s no reason he can’t share his tax fillings with the voters, right? (Such bogus excuse to begin with, the IRS already had the fillings, releasing them publicly wouldn’t have changed anything.)
Frakes screwed up his back working for a moving company before he made it as an actor, and the tight spandex uniforms of season 1 and 2 didn’t help anything. Rikering a chair is the easiest way for him to sit down.
Boeing’s share in the company came from the Delta rocket though, which was retired last month. (FWIW, Delta was originally a Douglas design, going back to the late 50’s, but Boeing got it through mergers.)
Babylon 5 on TNT. This’ll let you narrow down when this is from. The first four seasons were syndicated, TNT aired season 5, so this is either 1998, or later if it’s a rerun.
OK, I noticed Blue Jays at Braves, that’s an interleage game, which were only after 97, and very few of them per season. The Jays went to Atlanta once in 1998, June 26, 27, and 28. The 26th was a Friday.
That amount would cover, among other expenses, $5,000 in alimony payments to his ex-wife Judith Giuliani, $1,050 for food and housekeeping supplies and $425 for “personal care products and services.” He was also obliged to cover $13,500 in monthly nursing-home expenses for his former mother-in-law; she died in March....
In a month? Most people don’t make that much in a year. For reference, minimum wage in NYC is $15/hour, or $31,200/year working 40 hours a week. He spent almost four times that in a month.
The school ring that Lumbergh wears in Office Space is from EarthForce Academy. Gary Cole had previously played Captain Gideon in the Babylon 5 follow-up series Crusade, and I guess he took home a souvenir when the show got canceled.
Behind the curtains, DS9 had two disconnected corridor sets. One was outside the crew quarters / wardroom, and the other connected the airlock & cargo bay. Neither was all that large, especially when compared to TNG & Voyager’s long snaking main hallway set, so DS9 never had long walk & talks in the corridors. (DS9 did have the Promenade, though, which was probably more visually interesting for those types of scenes.)
The downhill skiing version is similar. The sighted guide has to shout directions to the blind skier as the team goes down the slope. Helmet radios are permitted, which helps when you’re going fast and the wind gets noisy, but if you use a radio, the blind skier looses the ability to orient themselves by which direction the guide’s voice is coming from.
