on the "bot tag" (based on iceshrimp's implementation and the activitystreams vocabulary specification):
the term "bot" was invented by implementers. the type of account it's actually federated as is either an Application for system accounts or a Service for automated accounts. the way this is implemented is actually really bad specifically because of activitypub's RDF roots. in activitypub, a "user" is considered an Actor, and anything that extends Actor can be used as a "user". however, instead of having an Actor type and a variant field, it has separate types of different variants of Actor as Object types: Application, Group, Organization, Person, or Service. these are Object types specifically: a minimal Actor object might look like {"type": "Person"}, and a minimal automated account Actor object might look like {"type": "Service"}. for reference, a minimal Note might be {"type": "Note"}. this is Really Weird and Not Extensible and Bad For Puppy. unfortunately, no implementations support fallback types, so you can't define yourself as {"type": ["Person", "NotAPerson"]}, which would be the correct way to define yourself as NotAPerson (or maybe the other order? idk)

TL;DR if you set yourself as a "bot" in the settings, you're actually setting yourself as a "service", which the robots will love for different reasons, and thus i have done nothing except to increase entropy

What is a fediverse-neutral word for "subtweet"? People here use "subtoot", but that's based on Mastodon's "toot", which is no longer officially used.

"Subpost" doesn't sound quite right. But I guess that's it?
