If you aren't whistling the Tetris music while loading the dishwasher, you obviously aren't trying hard enough.

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

@JoeRess I hand wash. Dishwasher is just an expensive drying rack. Sadly there isn’t music to hum for fridge Jenga though.

What is the best web browser if it comes to ?

Chrome is out of the question, I’m leaning towards Brave or Firefox. For MacOS, iOS & Linux 😇

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

@stux Firefox for PC (Linux and the token windows laptop I keep around). Partially because it’s something I’m comfortable with…even the annoying bits. Brave did a few weird things I didn’t like (crypto) so I ditched it.
For iOS you might as well use Safari. They put a fair amount of effort into it and all the browsers are safari underneath anyway.
I don’t care if chrome is the “standard” when it started surfacing stuff I browsed in other apps/emails I couldn’t drop it fast enough.

geographile, to philadelphia

I'm so tired of the effect of guns all over the US and I don't know what to do.

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

@geographile …it’s almost like like cheap, plentiful guns is the idea.
Money from the gun lobby and gun companies. Those companies are usually in their states. They get the vote/approval of their base. The violence is largely in urban areas that don’t vote/impact them. Those harmed are either minorities who they don’t want or children who they don’t care about. And then they get to use the violence to legislate against their opponents and use fear to control the rest.

What to do? Vote.

Stop worshipping billionaires.

Elon Musk threw away tens of billions of dollars to buy Twitter, and has spent the last year running it into the ground.

When billionaires take control of our most vital platforms for communication, it’s not a win for free speech.

It’s a win for oligarchy.

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich might as well say the number...$40B. Some of it was "his". Some of it was other billionaire's (who cares), some of it was bank investment...and depending on ye old banking shell game some of that could be regular individuals money. Or maybe they jack up your fees to cover the cost. Who knows?

Seeing more news over time of writers losing jobs, and websites / companies moving towards AI written articles.

We have absolutely no plans to have any kind of AI written articles and never will. More and more emails are coming in offering them and they all go in the bin.

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

@gamingonlinux …side note. Probably not much of a point posting the Twitter links anymore. They aren’t viewable without actually logging into Twitter. Which, for me only, I’m not interested in doing any more. Twitter is now walled.

So tempted to pause and read, just to see what their privacy guidance is. Also: where I live, in a nutshell. 😂

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

@ninavizz okay…this hurts my brain. Firstly, I thought the niche magazine market was well and truly dead.

Second, even if the whackos have money this, topically, is a niche-niche audience that probably doesn’t get out much. Like taxidermy monthly. This rag better be $30+.

Thirdly…that someone burying food in a bin in the woods is buying this at the local Barnes&Noble, Safeway, (or equivalent) is laughable.

“This month: End Times: 5 ways to escape Starbucks with your latte.”

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

@ninavizz oh, no…I guessed it was something like that for you. That part is not In question at all.

This is a magazine…that someone; wrote, got ads for, printed, and shipped to…more than where you are? On prepping. Condé Nast has trouble selling travel magazines. Readers Digest only goes to about 2 million people. That this exists at all is a bit wild. And I would wager it’s sitting in a Barnes&Noble rack in Portland right this very minute.

ministerofimpediments,

@popey Hack (or NetHack if you simply must…)

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

@popey …a modern gaming device with an audible fan and not quite 10 hours of battery life.
Hack would probably allow the battery to run for the full 10 hour flight, the 3 hours on the tarmac waiting to leave, the 30 min taxi to the terminal, the 30+ min waiting for your luggage, the 20+ min wait for your rental, and you’d still not even be remotely close to the end of the game.

While this XKCD was about Instagram…it certainly applies to as well.
Basically it may have been a labor of love (or in the case of nsfw something a little lower), but those communities were built in a garage that didn’t belong to you. Unfortunately there are only a few options…you know that and the twit in charge knows it too. You can bet he’ll boot the moderators and flip on the lights at some point. So be warned.

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

And this applies to as well as
Remember, for all social media, you are the product they want to monetize. And they all need to make money at some point. The only way to exercise any power is to not just threaten to walk away, but to do so if pushed. Otherwise the threat is toothless.
Happily the runs on donations…donate to your share(s). Prevent the bullshit and be free.

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

@mastodonmigration Predatory ToS are nothing new. What people shouldn’t do is say “Well, I see that they are screwing me and making money off of the content I created…might as well get used to it and give them more”.
That’s like saying the answer to lung cancer is smoking harder.
What is the benefit of the pain of moving on?
1: You get to try something new. Nothing lasts forever so start now.
2: Old stuff is worth less. ‘Cause people want new-new.
3: You realize you are valuable.

When making scrambled eggs, a splash of milk in the mixture is…

ministerofimpediments,
@ministerofimpediments@mastodon.social avatar

@popey use half and half…instead of just milk and the eggs taste better. Pinch of salt. Medium hot pan. Keep the eggs moving in the pan.
All the local bagel places and/or places do a variation on the same trick. 1/3 half/half, whip the crap out of the eggs to get a lot of air in them. Then microwave them (don’t ask me for how long). They get light and fluffy quickly and don’t dry out.
