Mastodon has successfully sold 12 million people on the practical use of decentralization because they see it in action. And they love it.

Bluesky’s biggest fans think decentralization is horseshit—and they’re hostile to it being implemented.

This is a bad omen for Bluesky.

I mean, just imagine two way cross posting for starters. And clients that seamlessly work with both APIs. You quickly have conversations and relationship networks spanning both. Hard to put that genie back in a bottle. Hard to see how Bluesky resists that force. Don't think the Elon playbook is available to them.

    Bluesky is going great. The whole no-moderation thing was a great idea when you opened the floodgates to tens of thousands of people.

    “You can mute people!” is the entire current moderation plan, so this is what you get.

    @trochee Tangential, but: I went to a "startup boot camp" at my college about 10 years ago. One day, one of the VCs there was talking about her theory that (I think?) Y Combinator was some sort of Westworld-esque data mining operation, trying to find the characteristics of the perfect entrepreneur. (She said this admiringly.)
