Part poet, part photographer, almost entirely potato.

Each Saturday I post a list of the #GoodNews I've come across in the last week. This is something I started doing for the benefit of a very small group of family members who were a little bogged down by all the difficult things we're having to cope with in the world. I thought it worth forwarding it on into Mastodon in the hope that it might help others.

  • mister_goldfish,

    @HelenG Hope you're doing ok. x

    mister_goldfish,

    @HelenG Afraid we're still not good and D had a particularly bad night, so we're a bit zombified today (or more so than usual!). Hope you have a fun evening with Northern Exposure. x

    We've both been quite poorly of late and as such have not been getting much completed. But today @goldfish and I put together the lampshade kit I bought her two Christmases ago to go with a rather lovely ceramic lamp base. We're super pleased with the overall look. The paper Deb chose really suits the general 'vibe'. The only problem is that, now the hall is lit, I had to hoover up all the dust and cobwebs that haven't been visible until now before taking a photo!

    mister_goldfish,

    @HelenG @goldfish Thank you! It's been so dark in the hall this last year. Got it done just in time for lighter days!

    wouldn't put a solar roof on Model Y so this owner did it himself - https://mashable.com/article/tesla-model-y-solar-roof "using nine 175-watt solar panels, Beta One can add 6kWh to the EV per day, which is about 20 miles of range, with five hours of sun. "

    mister_goldfish,

    @glynmoody I'm really curious about the drop in efficiency of the car with the solar array attached. Does it generate more range than is lost? It does make me think how much I like solar panel-covered parking spaces.

    mister_goldfish,

    @kentindell @glynmoody Oh yes, lots of clever and well thought out solar panel installations in car design. It's just a bolt on system will have aero consequences. I particularly like the (definitely not aero) XBUS which is supposed to include a solar roof in all models. https://electricbrands.de/en/faq/

    @HelenG @fkamiah17 @PaulNickson @selzero I have a childhood memory of early sci-fi reading and thinking 'Railguns in space? I don't know how they think they're getting trains up there...' I love the internet. I'd be such a dope without it.

    "They always slept from November to April, because such was the custom of their forefathers, and Moomins stick to tradition. Everybody had a good meal of pinecones in their stomachs, just as their ancestors used to have.
    The silence was deep and expectant.
    Every now and then somebody sighed and curled deeper down under the quilt."
    from 'Moominland Midwinter', by Tove Jansson

    Colour gif of Moomintroll yawning and settling down to sleep.

    mister_goldfish,

    @fkamiah17 Did you happen to catch the Moomin story on Radio 4 last month? I really wish they'd release it and their Moominland Midwinter for sale.

    mister_goldfish,

    @fkamiah17 You've got a week left. It's fabulous https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001tpwl

    I'm not vegan, but have been reducing the amount of meat I eat for the last few years. This has been made so much easier by some of the vegan meat replacements that have been developed. Today we had 'This Isn't Roast Chicken and Stuffing' as part of a full roast meal. Not to toot my own horn (in a toot, no less) but it was the best meal I've made this year. This Isn't... make lots of great products - their sausages are the best vegan ones I've found. Highly recommended https://this.co/products/roast-chicken-stuffing/

    @HelenG @HelenG Wishing you a quick recovery. The Covid jab I found very ouchy this time. The flu wasn't sore at all. Viral symptoms much less than previous, although what there was seemed to come on the day after, and while I can't be sure, my instinct is that they were from the flu part than covid (I had both together). Look after yourself x

    @randynose And while not a video, this is a document produced by the manufacturer of the pets. https://agelessinno.wpenginepowered.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/CareGuide_ENGLISH_Master-1.pdf
