I’m starting a deep #dive (I guess the pun is sort of intended) into #scuba diving—specifically cave diving. Seems like fertile ground for short #horror #fiction. Part of it is personal, I think. I’ve gone snorkeling and got a little panicky about the breathing rhythm. But this may be something that many people have trouble with, I’m guessing #WritingCommunity

Back when there was very little health n safety we went on a school trip to a cave (Wookey Hole maybe) and they made us go through a squeeze on our bellies.

I'm not sure how, but the bus tracker system in York somehow fails to track some buses that do exist, and also, more mysteriously, does track some buses that just don't exist.

You see it on the display, counting down the minutes, eventually "due". There is no bus, it disappears from the display as if a bus had just gone past.

How!?

They are called 'ghost busses'.

Something to do with the tracker only being a prediction and not really what is happening.

"First Bus have now clarified that the ‘live bus’ tracker on its app is simply what is supposed to be happening according to the timetable, and not an actual representation of whether the bus is on the road approaching within minutes."

Oh, it's not even a UK only thing.

Looks like a lot of places simply digitised the timetable.

There was a project that I can't find right now, that looked at ghost bus frequency, population density and distance from town centers.

Then mapped it all out in funky data visualisations.
