@geerlingguy I can‘t really grasp it, but Sam Altman really scares me, as he appears to me as the prototype of a rich villain in a dystopian Sci-Fi movie. And even if he isn’t, I don‘t think he‘s up to the responsibility his position requires (similar but different to Elon Musk).

It's funny how I often feel incredibly uncomfortable here because I can’t really talk about generative AI, OpenAI stuff, innovation etc… because some of the crowd is just toxic about it.
Even on X, you don’t get that kind of people flaming in your mentions because they think they’re on such a high horse.
I can have whatever opinion I want and you need to calm down.
Get over it. Generative AI is here to stay and so many workflow and tools will get improved because of it.

@dimillian @gerrymcgovern Well, it is a massive problem going forward with energy transition. There‘s still a lot to do. Also in France, btw. Your whole energy supply is already fu**** as French rivers will offer less and less water due to climate change and all your nuclear reactors will have to shut down again. Don‘t get me wrong, we‘re going to be equally fu**** in Germany as soon as the conservatives will be the ruling party again.

But I agree that there are other problems than AI to address first. Bitcoin farming for example.

@geerlingguy Things 3. But besides it being a nice and well-designed app, I‘ve been looking for an app that really catches me motivational-wise for ages.

The perfect thing for me would be something with colorful tags and a GitHub-like contribution chart. I love myself some gamification.

@geerlingguy Really interesting. Were these ~150 Watts at idle? What power saving options are currently supported for Ampere CPUs under Linux? Got an AMD config, which is not considered to be very power efficient, with two NVME SSDs, five HDDs and four big case fans running at 30 Watts.

I‘d be really interested in who the culprit is. Lack of power saving options of the CPU, Fans, PSU, HBA, NICs in combination with IPMI? Probably a combination.

Couldn't find an Apple Vision Pro stand, so I threw together a quick 3D printable one over lunch where it can stand vertically and cover the lens 🥽

Printing now to test it, then I'll put it on Thingiverse or something (no I'm not printing it in steel but that would be cool)

@dimillian @IceCubesApp It sure is. I think it‘s pretty obvious that Vision Pro and Apple‘s prior focus on AR will lead to that. For me Vision Pro is only a very, very expensive step in between.
So I‘ll check again as soon as energy over WiFi/xG or tiny fusion reactors become a thing. 😂

@dimillian I think this is very good. Most apps I use I have been using for many years. There‘s almost no new apps that I‘m using daily (one exception is Ice Cubes). This is mostly due to the shift to subscriptions. What I really miss is emulators to play games on the go. Apple won‘t accept those apps for their App Store. So I‘ll still still rely mostly on Apple‘s App Store but I‘ll appreciate trustworthy alternative ones. Never for app piracy though. What are your concerns?

@dimillian Regulations are necessary when companies become too big. And it hasn‘t been done enough (Google, Microsoft). Because when companies become such a big part of people‘s lives, especially Apple with their focus to get everyone into their ecosystem, it‘s only theoretically a choice to switch. I love the aesthetics of Apple hardware and software and I‘ve switched 100%, but on Desktops and Phones/Tablets they have a duopoly with Google/MS and those have to be regulated. Just my 2 cents.

@dimillian I‘m eager to see what will come out of its release. I‘m personally waiting for AR glasses for everyday use. But I guess they are still quite far away (mainly due to limited space for batteries).
