Ok, on to 2 Fast 2 Furious! I've never actually seen this one. I imagine it's the best one and I've been missing out all these years.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@kevin too late!! It's been watched.
Weirdly, this is actually a more coherent story than the first one, and yet I enjoyed it far less. Vin Diesel wasn't there to growl out the word Family! What were they thinking??

Rolistespod, to random
@Rolistespod@dice.camp avatar

Anyway, I recommend to check both shows.

I watch one of them with my 6yo and it's slowly opening his mind about food.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@Rolistespod I have also been watching Hannibal with my 6 year old. I, too, fear that it's been opening her mind to food possibilities...

JK, we did watch Delicious in Dungeon though. She loved it up until the last couple episodes, which got a bit scary for her tastes. She and I both kinda preferred the light hearted cooking stuff more than the heavy plotty parts, though it's all very very good.

My dad was a human cannonball for years. Sadly, when he died they had to retire the act. They just couldn’t find another man of his caliber.

@Da_Gut I just think it's amazing he never got fired!

It has begun. I sat my wife down to watch the first Fast and Furious film together. It's important to start at the start to see how far the franchise has come.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

She did not realize that Letty and Mia were not the same character, and it was only like 3/4 of the way through the film that it became an issue.
Letty's personality is "lives down the street" according to my wife.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

We also realized that the Race Wars event (oh my god why) was hyped up a bunch in the middle of the film but was basically just glossed over once it happened. It felt like it was being set up as the stage upon which the climax would be performed, but instead it lasted five minutes.
There was some strange pacing in the film, I must say.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

The Tran gang having their engines stolen by some fence? Who did that? What were the repercussions of that plot point? As far as I can tell it wasn't the Toretto gang, and they got them back, presumably, since we see Johnny Tran drive his super car at Race Wars (again, dear lord, why).
The scene seems to exist just to demonstrate that JT is mean?? And to show our boy Brian a purely coincidental stockpile of cd players that they have for SOME REASON???

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

Letty and Leon are also UTTERLY superfluous. They do nothing meaningful at any point in the film.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

It's the end of the movie and Vin has just plowed his race car into the side of a big rig truck.
Brian:"Here Vin Diesel, take my car!"
Vin: "But you're a cop"
Brain: "I don't care about the Truck Driver Beatings anymore. You have a sad backstory, so you're absolved from all the truck driver beatings."
Vin: "I wonder if the driver of that truck I just careened into is ok."
Brain: "I told you, I'm not concerned about that anymore! I care about driving cars fast and fucking your sister."
FIN

I think I like it better when they're playing rocket league in Rome with robotrucks

@sbszine I've never seen Point Break. If it's anything like The Fast And The Furious, I'll have to check it out!

nickdrawthing,

@sbszine people say the franchise has become unhinged. I say YES

There's a few different camps on generative "AI":

  • "It's our lord and savior" (mostly AI companies pushing this)
  • "It will kill us all" doomerism (it won't, it has no intelligence or sentience or agenda)
  • "It has some use cases!" centrism (problematic because it enables the lord and savior types & it's also wrong as work products are highly unreliable, even for basic things like summaries and tabulation)
  • "It's a bullshit tech hype, paired with theft and environmental waste" (correct)
nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@thomasfuchs I think some of the comments here are missing the distinction between "generative AI" and Neural Networks. Neural networks are great, useful tools with many applications. Generative AI is an unpredictable, expensive mess built on top of Neural Networks, and I can't see the benefits ever outweighing the harms.

Dear console developers,

your game's UI needs to be readable from 4 meters away.

My living room is not very big and my screen is not very small. But the text on the UI that looks good when viewed on a huge screen from 40 cm away is unreadable when you move it from desk to couch.

The Witcher 3 and Conan Exiles both make me frequently get off my couch to walk up to the screen to make out what most of the regular text says, and there is no setting for larger letters.

You fail at your job!

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@Yora I REALLY wanted to play This War Of Mine but I literally had to stand up two feet from the TV to read any of it, and it's very text-heavy. I wound up giving up on it, which is a damn shame. Same with HZD, and too many other games to count.

Good for you, congratulations!

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@stefan I want to lose a bit of weight so I don't suffer so much heartburn, but my main concern is my cardiovascular health. I think endurance stuff is my best bet there. I've always sucked at it, so it'll be an uphill battle I'm sure, but hopefully worth it.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@jake4480 This is around where I'm at. I was 150 for ages, and when I first started putting on weight I didn't mind it. But it just kept going, and now I'm at 220 and pretty unhappy about it. Gotta start doing something about it!

In Florida. Too damn cold and too much thin blue line shit down here. This vacation sucks!

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@pteryx it's certainly not my first choice. My dear mother loves the everglades (as do I) and wanted one last family trip to see them while she's still able to travel. So I'm here, enjoying the anoles and manatees while trying to ignore the angry stares as I walk about masked up.

nickdrawthing,

Honestly the sheer volume of American flags down here is ridiculous. They're everywhere! I hear tales of people grousing about the flag being treated disrespectfully, yet I see stars and stripes on beer coozies and socks and every other item it can get slapped onto. It's honestly just absurd and cartoonish. I get it! We're in America!

Any time I was amongst humans I felt uncomfortable. But visiting the state parks was incredible. That humid semitropical climate and all that it manifests is very much my jam.
