I have finished watching the show. I enjoyed it! It was... fine, if not phenomenal.

I have some questions I'm wondering if anyone has answers to that I will put behind a spoiler tag.

Tried to see the today but the damn moon got in the way

nickdrawthing,

In reality, we traveled to be in the path of full eclipse and I have to say it was worth every penny. It was a nigh-religious experience. Far more beautiful and moving than I anticipated. I'm so lucky to have had the opportunity to see it.

The "diamond ring" at the end (the moment that the sun emerged from behind in a sudden, brilliant flare) was incredible. I know it's not really safe to view that part with the naked eye but my god, it was the icing on the cake.

@Da_Gut@dice.camp avatar

It took my wife and her friend 5 hours to make the 1 hour and 15 minute drive back to our house after the Eclipse, from Greenville, ME.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@Da_Gut similar for us. It was supposed to be a 2.5 hour drive, wound up being 5.5. Kingston to Toronto. Worth it though!!

Holy moly the eclipse was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Glad I made a trip to get to the totality.

Was wild seeing the corona, and all the birds in the park coming in to roost for the “night” briefly. I’m gonna remember this for a while.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@Xandor I can't stop thinking and it. We also made the trip to see the totality and I'm so glad we did. I could not believe how beautiful it was. I knew it would be cool but I didn't expect it to be beautiful.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@Xandor I'm definitely researching the next nearest one to me haha! Might be the excuse I need to go see Iceland!

nickdrawthing,

@jenn a lot of the answers feel like close cousins to the stories that precede recipes. 5k words of unnecessary context enveloping two lines of relevant information.

I'm thinking a lot about calendars and time for my game, especially since in my current campaign, we're really going day-by-day doing exploration. Other than rations, I feel like it's difficult to make the passage of time relevant in a lot of games. Anyone know of any systems that manage to do this well?

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@veritastabletop you can make players care about time by trying stuff they care about to a schedule. If they have to get to a birthday party, or have six days to dispell a curse, or a fortnight to prepare for the invasion, then setbacks matter more.

tip from the archive: Before you put a lot of brain time into a new campaign, ensure it's the kind of campaign your players want to play.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@slyflourish I learned this the hard way! Of course much can be recycled, and there's a joy to the creation process itself. But it is disappointing for everyone.

sometimes I follow people from the live feeds.

occasionally, like today, the people I follow get all offended about it. some guy I just followed for his background picture was acting all suspicious because I followed him.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@kyonshi that's so bizarre. What do people post online for if it's not to engage with others?

gavi, to random

so im posting photos of interesting weather stuff that can happen on this here planet we call home to show just how cool our planet is, come along with me on this adventure if you so desire (or mute the thread instead, thats ok too)

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@gavi I was so lucky to get to see some of these when I was in college. I was heading back from the grocery store and looked up to see a sky full of these cloudy butt cheeks! It was so cool.
Someplace I have a photo I took with the terrible flip phone I had at the time.

new rugs for the hallway arrived but they are trying to stay in their rolled up state. i have laid one down and put the rug mat on top of it until it "calms down"

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@NoraReed I have no idea if this works but I saw some "life hack" recently that said you should put something heavy like a mug on the curled areas, then melt ice cube BESIDE the mug. No idea if this is real or if big ice cube is behind this

I've always thought that games with a stamina bar and a crouch-to-sneak mechanic should drain your stamina when you crab-walk around. You ever try to be sneaky? It's hard on the muscles!

In bed with COVID. Quietly listening to the strange creaking noises my lungs make as I exhale.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

It is primarily caused by my breath, but my heartbeat also influences the sound.

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

@GM_in_the_Great_Barrier thank you! My wife and daughter had it last week so I knew it was only a matter of time. Forewarned my coworkers, bought groceries, and tidied up. Now I just have to ride it out!

nickdrawthing,
@nickdrawthing@dice.camp avatar

A couple times today I've thought "ah, enough laying in bed, it's time to get up and do something." I wander around a bit before an invisible lead blanket settles over my shoulders and reminds me that I can't just brute force my way through it.

I sidle up behind my wife and run my hand along the small of her back. I whisper in her ear.
"After kiddo goes to bed tonight..."
"Yeah?"
"...let's cuddle up on the couch..."
"Uh huh?"
"..and watch The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift"

I can't see her face, but she sighs heavily (I must assume from anticipation)
