Is there no support for the new “State of Mind” Mood/Emotion tracking in HealthKit?

(Paging @matthewcassinelli or anyone else who can confirm this is missing)

nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar

@kylewritescode @matthewcassinelli I’m hoping for Journal to have really good shortcuts support, but they purposefully decoupled the mood tracking and put it in the Health app, so I was hoping we’d have it now.

Oh well, time to dust off my “take a screenshot and parse the text” shortcut skills

@jimmylittle what platform? I find the scanner in Notes.app on iOS is all I need FWIW

nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar

@jimmylittle yeah 20-40 is a lot to use iOS for, makes sense.

I remember having to figure out which app was best on iOS, and then Apple sherlocked them all with a way better scanner. It’s great!

Lots of comments, snark, and sarcasm floating around about the Titan submersible implosion. I definitely have mixed feelings:

  1. Was it a silly adventure for rich people? Yes. And that’s OK. Better to spend on silly than hoarding wealth.
  2. Is it a tragedy? Absolutely. People died, FFS.
  3. Should this stuff be better regulated? Yes. But by whom? It’s international waters.
  4. Will people keep pushing the envelope on exploration? I hope so - just do it in a more responsible way.
nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar

@jimmylittle for me I think the takeaway is that purposefully skirting standards and certifications is to blame. I’m not sure it needs to be regulated, and I don’t think it’s wrong that these people wanted to go on this adventure, but I bet their families wish they had done more homework on how this company operated. I don’t say that with any snark, just grief

I’ve completely stopped using Apple’s “Hide My Email” feature. I tried for a few months, but iCloud’s Junk/Spam filtering is hot garbage. I know I can turn off any generated email address at any time and all, but ain’t nobody got time for that.

Check out the screenshot. I deleted all Junk YESTERDAY, and today there are 675 messages that I get to delete again. I don’t have this problem with Gmail. Back to using my Google address for all the web signups, I guess.

Or maybe Sanebox. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar

@jimmylittle I literally made a second iCloud account for this stuff. It’s in Mail.app but not in Spark. If I ever want to see if Dunkin Donuts sent me a coupon for my bday, I’ll go looking for it 🤷‍♂️

Honestly, I’d like this widget view to just be the watch face.

nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar

@jimmylittle I hope that all the widgets are available on the Siri face, and that I can have better customization as to which ones appear when. I always thought the Siri face had so much potential, but it was crippled because A) not that many devs used it and B) there was no way to indicate that “I want these apps to ALWAYS be in the stack of cards”

If you’re one of the Mastodon admins that are preemptively saying you won’t federate with Instagram’s upcoming ActivityPub product, seems to me you’re probably not the right person to be administering a federated server because you fundamentally ignore the spirit of federation.

You just want to be a gatekeeper.

@jimmylittle do you have a 14 Pro? Is this only for always on displays or can I use it on my 13 Pro?

Yes, I know the battery will charge slower if the screen is on, I don’t care

nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar

@jimmylittle I agree, I wish it was always there. Especially with an iPhone 13 Pro that has both OLED and adaptive refresh rate, like just lower the brightness and slow the screen to 1hz. It seems like it would work just fine.

But whatever, I’m glad I can use it while tapping the screen instead of not getting it at all!

and Feedbacks I'm filing… 🧵

nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar

@jimmylittle @matthewcassinelli (imo) the honeycomb can be useful if you carefully select everything that’s visible on the screen WITHOUT moving around. You can actually fit a lot of apps there.

The fact that you can zoom out and the stupid thing just keeps growing in all directions when new apps are installed has always kinda sucked (at least I think so). I think a scrolling, fixed width honeycomb is a good idea, and I’m excited to try it

nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar

@jimmylittle yeah this is annoying. Idk what all the exceptions are, but it seems like photos is always paused for something when I need it 🙃

ESPECIALLY when there’s just a few items. Like if I go out and take 200 photos I get why you’d want to wait but…

nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar

@jimmylittle @matthewcassinelli I think the biggest issue is that I imagine many people didn’t know you could get to control center (and Notification Center) from within apps by holding down at the bottom of the screen until it stated to slide it. (I had a watch for YEARS before I knew this)

With the absence of that gesture (no discoverability = absence), there kinda does need to be a way to bring it up without going to the Home Screen, especially as Focus modes gain prominence.

jimmylittle, to random
@jimmylittle@hachyderm.io avatar

Trying out and I’m not convinced wasting the entire side button on Control Center is a good idea.

It’s a major usability regression over launching the Dock, at least in my use cases.

I was a heavy Dock user, keeping my 8 most used apps there, one tap away. Now, I don’t see a way yet to keep a quick-launch set of apps handy…

nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar

@jimmylittle doesn’t double-clicking the crown open the dock now? Or am I remembering that wrong?

Whatever it is, double-clicking the crown doesn’t go back to the previous app anymore, which I used constantly. I agree that control center doesn’t seem to need a dedicated button; I almost never use it.

nickfoster,
@nickfoster@hachyderm.io avatar
