nilloc,

We’re lucky if they get past 2 amendments.

Then after committing crime because they assumed said 1st and 2nd amendments allowed it, the learn about the 5th amendment.

Devout Christian Mike Johnson shows up to hush money trial to defend a guy accused of cheating on his wife with a porn star (www.vanityfair.com)

House Speaker Mike Johnson describes himself as a Christian before anything else. He has said his “faith informs everything I do.” He has told people curious about his views to “pick up a Bible.” His wife reportedly runs a counseling service whose operating agreement, which he himself notarized, states, “We believe and...

nilloc,

I assumed that was a troll or performance art stunt at the time, but nothing ever came out, and now all evidence points to his supporters genuinely worshipping his gold shit.

Though wearing gold diapers is probably a lot more affordable than his sneakers.

nilloc,

Isn’t Milo claiming his gay was prayed away? That’s why he can’t do porn with Kanye I think.

Republicans Flock to Trump’s Trial, Risking Control of the House Floor (www.nytimes.com)

"The House was in session at the Capitol on Thursday, but thanks to the latest procession of Republicans reporting for duty in front of a Manhattan criminal courthouse to show support for former President Donald J. Trump at his trial, the party risked ceding its control of the floor,” the New York Times reports....

nilloc,

Trump hired a bunch of them. Sports is (barely) more fair.

nilloc,

Andor did a good job of not giving a shit about the Jedi and also showing how terrible the fascist empire was. The whole prison episodes were really amazing.

Tap for spoilerAnd all those prisoners for some hinges in the Death Star cannon.

nilloc,

Pleasantly surprised by the cheapest Bikeroo helmet. Pretty disturbed by the counterfeit $300 one.

We bought a Bluey helmet at Wally world for my toddler when he was learning (we started during a vacation and options were limited). The glue holding the adjustable headband in softens in the sun, then glued his hair to the helmet. So that’s gone now.

Looking forward to VT testing kids helmets. Seems like something that would have already been done, since we’ve had kids bike helmets since the 80s (when I started wearing one).

nilloc,

Yeah he’s already upgraded to a MIPS helmet.

The Bluey helmet might have actually been a Schwinn. It has I think the identical molding and hardware as this one. I know Schwinn isn’t what it used to be (I assume the name was sold off to a holding company years ago), but it still seems like they should be better than the alphabet soup brands on Amazon.

nilloc,

It also means there are probably 7 other “brands” that need recalling because there’ they’re the same helmet.

nilloc,

Is snows 3-4 months of the year and is regularly below freezing. I love riding my bike and did some pretty rough weather when I was younger in Boston, but I just don’t have it in me between mid November and mid April.

nilloc,

Vietnam was bike centric for decades before Northern Europe. They just did it by making cars impossibly expensive for most people.

And besides monsoon season, is pretty nice to ride in.

nilloc,

Montreal has a bunch too, Milwalkee I think, has enclosed bridges between a lot of the buildings downtown.

Boston has some between malls and hotels, but it’s really only in the touristy parts. And definitely no bikes in there.

nilloc,

I was at my moms house making my son a sandwich and she admonished me for using a knife in the jam. At first I thought she was worried about peanut allergies (non of our family have a that allergy), but then she claims that knives break up the pectin in jam and only spoons can scoop it without ruining it.

I use a knife in ours almost every day and have never had (good) jam go soupy.

I assume it’s just another bullish “tip” from social media.

nilloc,

Yeah, you’d either have to be good at meeting strangers to charge at private homes, or ready to hike to public outlets (and camp near them) if you want to solo a e scooter across the country.

Obscure screw added so appliance cannot be disassembled (lemmy.world)

Basic blender went bad (motor ran but spindle wasn’t rotating). I wanted to disassemble to see if it could be repaired. Three of the four screws were Phillips head. I had to cut the casing open in order to discover why I couldn’t unscrew the fourth. It was a slotted spanner.

nilloc,

Here’s the link, it’s helped me out a bunch of times in the 6-8 years I’ve had it.

2 notes though

  • these are hard cheese grade metal. Don’t plan on removing any high torque, Rusty or partly stripped screws with them, they’ll either break or round off.
  • if the screw is too recesses down a narrow hole, these won’t help. The bit holders are too wide to fit in. I have a Honeywell Air Purifier with one security Torx that is 3-4” down a hole that this set failed me on.
nilloc,

This analysis isn’t about the political impact, so much as the legal value. Getting evidence and testimony that will stand up to appeal is important if Trump is convicted.

nilloc,

They’re probably spending intervening 10 months cleaning all the embarrassing comments out of the code before the initial commit.

nilloc,

2 weeks with an angle grinder ought to do it.

nilloc,

Yeah it’s meant to have uglier wheels that fit with those ugly tires, possibly only with the ugly tires.

I think it’s as close low polygon wheels they could get before they become hexagonal.

nilloc,

Diesel/kerosene doesn’t evaporate like gasoline though, lots of mechanics use it to soak Rusty stuff and get parts unseized.

Modern has also attacks rubber with its high ethanol content, but its a slower process.

Gasoline works great for cleaning, but you have to immediately coat it in something or you get flash rust again. Diesel is slower, but less volatile, and better near rubber and plastics.

Btw, I restore old cars and have used both to clean things, though the cancerous benzine fumes from gasoline aren’t worth it compared to other solvents for me. Denatured alcohol<mineral spirits<naphtha<acetone is my order of escalation when a mess is stubborn.

nilloc,

Diesel fuel would probably work ok, gasoline will evaporate and make it rust quicker.

The way Elon’s politics have gone it wouldn’t surprise me if he started promoting fossil fuel use.

nilloc,

Are we taming, maiming or killing though?

I fine with all three if it’s a dumb truck.

nilloc,

Carter built houses for 4 decades after his presidency mismanaged the Iran hostages, energy crisis, and 70s inflation (though I’m not sure he deserves credit for the last one).

Bush is eating playing with paint and hiding from his mismanagement of the 9/11 attacks and subsequent unrelated war he started.
