Went to the protest today. It was very good, police did not interfere (Mayor had told them not to apparently). Occupied a section of Grand for about 2 hours. Group dispersed around 9:30 when the rain started.

Proud to see some young leadership organizing a large group, disrupting, and making specific demands (divest from ). Lots of signs pointing out the hypocrisy of a Jesuit school investing in a military contractor.

Yesterday I joined a protest in about . A chemical weapon, which kills and maims by chemical burn. White Phosphorous is produced by (headquartered here in STL), sold to (which also operates out of STL), and then sold by ICL to several militaries, including the US and IDF.

In many ways it can feel like these wars are solely the decisions of far away politicians, happening in far away places, to far away people. But the machine is also here at home.

What's the best #documentary to watch about #ants? I am suddenly curious. I'm sure this has nothing to do with @futurebird's constant antposting.

Somehow I missed this before, but apparently there's a solar-powered train in Australia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y4QGFte3T8

"Up close, internet concentration seems too intricate to untangle; from far away, it seems too difficult to deal with. But what if we thought of the internet not as a doomsday “hyperobject,” but as a damaged and struggling ecosystem facing destruction? What if we looked at it not with helpless horror at the eldritch encroachment of its current controllers, but with compassion, constructiveness and hope?"

Sometimes over on formiculture, the premiere ant-keeping discussion forum, parents show up and post because their kid is keeping ants and Something Has Gone Wrong. These are some of the most cryptic and unintentionally hilarious posts on the site.

Title: Random shoots from ant sandwich?
Post: "My son bought an ant farm. It contained a box a tube and a sandwich. He started with lasius Niger ants these died. We bought some fire ants. Now there are shots."

I have SO MANY questions. 1/

@futurebird Well that's just foolish. A formicarium is encased on all sides. Therefore, it's more accurately a burrito.

Is there a good catch-all term for bikes, wheelchairs, strollers, wheeled luggage? "Pedestrian wheels"? I feel like we talk about those things separately but their design problems and solutions have a lot of overlap.

Are there any good mastodon stickers or other mastodon swag I can get anywhere? Surely someone has made some propaganda?

Looks like joinmastodon.org has some merch, but none of it even hints at what mastodon is. I'm ideally looking for something that might catch someone's attention.

Here's a quick mock-up of what I'm thinking of. I may print out a couple for myself.

Ok, now it matches the official branding guide (ty @meganL) and I made a variation with @stefan's suggestion.

The top says "A Better Way To Connect", the mastodon logo is in the middle, and the bottom says "joinmastodon.org".

@richardnosworthy Just read this now! I'm a big fan of Organic Maps, but it doesn't always have everything. You can contribute info to OSM easily tho.

"Fun" fact about Signal that I actually find quite sad: Signal used to support normal SMS, so you could use it for texting and if the other person had Signal, it'd send over Signal. if not, it'd send as a regular SMS. You didn't need to use multiple apps. They discontinued that features a while ago unfortunately.

Good luck with everything!

Oh and another word on Organic - I think the speed is because of the offline functionality. it's very noticeable when I'm on LTE or a spotty connection how much slower Google Maps is. Organic feels like a big improvement when I'm somewhere more remote.
