One of my favorite Star Wars quips is "Who's the fool, the fool or the fool that follows him?"

So like follow me for more quips or something

What's up with Trump and Chubb?

Ten days ago, Chubb underwrote Trump's $92 million bond for his E. Jean Carroll defamation appeal.

But Chubb declined to handle the far higher appeal bond Trump now needs in his NY civil fraud case.

The insurance giant had faced blowback after agreeing to the Carroll bond.

@Free_Press the fun part is most of his valuation is tied up in real estate, and to trust his property value estimates is virtually criminal

If someone is hating on the Hitchhiker's Guide movie, gently remind them that Adams co-wrote it, so it's just as canon as the books, TV series, radio series, and cassette tapes ~ all of which contradict each other.

If you're going to test a laser communication system from 18 million miles away, of course it has to be a cat playing with a laser dot

Just crazy that we're having a wide scale outbreak of measles right after an extended period of high Covid transmission. Just crazy. It is almost like Covid has population wide immune defense implications...

@deadsuperhero I'd love to see this adopted wildly if the protocol can be fleshed out. I did like Hubzilla for this; the servers are boggy and I didn't even want to get into the hosting lack of instructions

Had to return a Blu-Ray player for my laptop. Not because it didn't look like the Amazon page; rather because it's a DVD region 2 (UK/EU) and therefore useless.

olav,
@olav@theweird.space avatar

@anathema_device regionset (Linux) didn't work. I can only guess the actual hardware design is too damn old

Either way, I shouldn't have been sent a region 2 player if it isn't called out in the product description.

And I'll send back the replacement if I need to. And as much as I hate it, I'll bitch Amazon too if need be.

Paul Alexander was an author and a (served bar) lawyer and a fierce, fierce survivor of 72 years in (and rarely out of) an iron lung. And it seems that lately in life he became an inspiration to sooo many.

And in the end, COVID.

Countries will sometimes value their currency vs the US Dollar vs trading it on the more open market. Often it provides some stability, particularly when trading abroad

So basically, I say one Triganic Pu is worth 1 US dollar and 1 Ningi is 12.5 US Cents so at least the value of the currency is less of an inflation factor

Gods if we're playing revolving doors w/ my MH I'm not going to be happy. I've been out for about two weeks and it feels a bit like before I went in last time.
If it is I'm just going to have to be in for a while We seem to be missing something, and it's not fair to Kat and my loved ones to drag them along the roller coaster tracks

olav,
@olav@theweird.space avatar

@anathema_device it's all back and forth. Yesterday sucked, today not so bad, we'll see tomorrow; I have no expectations

But yeah, I haven't had these manic swings for a while, and Kat's good at keeping me from doing the things I used to. A lot of which were buying airplane tickets

I don't know what happened, but I said something and the first group/processing bit basically turned into AMA bipolar. One of the more interesting things is how little folks understand bipolar mania.

Fly-fix-fly is perfectly valid engineering except when you can't do the fix-fly part.

Fwiw SpX pre-flight check goes to eleven, because the 2nd or 3rd Falcon-1 launch experienced "slosh" in the upper stage ~ basically the engine got fuel starved because the propellant was going will-nilly. Preventable, but it was concern on the top ten list

Here’s the difference between me and everyone else:

Most people will only consume media that they think will be good.

Meanwhile, I will watch, hear, and read anything. Granted, I end up experiencing a lot of trash. But sometimes, I wind up with a hidden gem that makes it all worthwhile.

If someone has a visceral reaction to art, no matter what that means, then art has done it's job ~ hopefully in the direction the artist meant, assuming the artist didn't just want you to take a step back and imagine.

I've had to downshift to "when I can" unfortunately. The mental hospital, nobody masked and the ones they provided didn't even have a nose clip. Outpatient I can wear what I want but yeah, rooms full of unmasked people and the best I can do is try to maintain some personal space.
I should do next week there as well, but I dunno. I'm vaxxed and have been lucky but at some point both mental health points have to be balanced

Of course it was like a day before I got discharged that I heard about Vraylar. It's nearly literally the drug for my diagnosis:

Bipolar I, depressive with mixed episodes.

If I'd known a few weeks ago I would have "discuss with your doctor" but the cocktail seems stable and I ain't risking another hospital trip RN.

I was gonna say I hope we don't need to change up meds for a while but we've got to address the anxiety. That should be relatively minor tho.
~ bipolar you have to switch things up sometimes because the brain gets acclimatized
