I'm not surprised the clip I could find was not the "dance of salome" is better known as "the dance of the seven veils". It was so racy the opera was banned many places. Because the lead soprano did a dance wearing nothing but seven veils.

My ex should have been pro opera, only she aged out first.

If you haven't been to Death Valley I recommend it. It's one of those really unique places in the country. It was a fun trip other than the flat tire, but that was worth the risk too.

Listen, if you’re a white person, and you think you’ve had Szechuan food, you probably haven’t.

Most of the Szechuan restaurants in the USA lack a basic component: spiciness.

I say this because a friend from out of town just went to a Szechuan restaurant in Vancouver, thought it was going to be business as usual, and now he’s doubled over because the spice is too much for him.

He tells me, it’s so bad, that he feels the spice eking out of his pores. 🤣

Ethiopian berbere in the US uses chilies de arbol and so far as I can tell cools the body via excessive sweat.

I'm trying to come up with something mild but with the same flavors since my wife lost her heat tolerance thanks to COVID.

So I just tried opting into (https://brid.gy/mastodon/@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org).

I found it confusing. For one thing, it asks me for my Mastodon account. Though Akkoma uses Mastodon’s API, not all sites recognize this nor support it—I don’t know if BridgyFed would reject.

Secondly, it’s not clear how to opt in. I think I opted in but there was nothing to say “Congrats! People from can see you!”

Also, how do I receive posts? That’s not apparent to me.

Yanno we were in Death Valley last week, and if a car was along the road people stopped to see if they needed help. Always unless it was obvious photo ops or whatever. On the way back from the Racetrack we popped a tire in the middle of nowhere and folks waited to make sure we were okay.

Why can't we just be like that? It takes virtually zero effort to just ask.

@aodhsishaj @metaStatic bankruptcy is by far not the worse thing you can do. Often trying to unbury yourself will take longer to get back to solvency.

We had to medical B out. Get cancer these days, particularly with a $6K+ deductible for a PPO and you're toast. We managed to switch to a HMO before surgery and we were still toast. And I had a Good Job.

File, get a pre-paid card then some high-interest you barely use, then some "normal" credit and it builds faster than you know

Okay, I’m back. Sort of. I’m suffering from back pain from hell, so touching grass is almost impossible right now, but doomscrolling has lost a lot of its appeal even with just a few days off.

You’ll probably see fewer posts from me. I’ve decided reposts are probably not worth it since I figure most people have them turned off.

I really don’t know why I’m telling you all this since I’m not a train and you don’t need to know my schedule :)
