p1mrx,

Lock some calipers (with a rod sticking out) to 1.5mm shorter than the part height, compress it down onto a kitchen scale until the rod is just touching the platform, and record the weight.

That’s just the first procedure that came to mind. I will try to think of a way to do a hook strength test today.

The technique can be applied to other models: Use PrusaSlicer’s ‘cut’ feature to break the model into parts, and tweak the settings (mainly infill and perimeters) to give each part the desired density.

p1mrx,

It’s not rocket surgery. Boats need more weight at the bottom than the top. If you put it in water and it leans, shift some weight in the other direction.

PrusaSlicer has a ‘center of gravity’ indicator that removes at least some of the guesswork.

p1mrx,

You can see in the photo that the wall is just above the waterline. It stays in that orientation until you disturb it enough to spill water over the edge, at which point it capsizes.

p1mrx,

So you’re saying it’s technically a pirate ship?

What exactly are your modifiers modifying?

Edit: oh, I see. A modifier lets you draw shapes onto the model instead of cutting planes only. That does seem like an easier approach.

p1mrx,

So McMurdo Station isn’t a station now?

p1mrx,

2a09:: 2a11:: and 2409:: are the shortest.

p1mrx,

I found them via IP address, so I don’t know anything about the company beyond that.

Short side hamper handle from the top:

Long side hamper handle from the bottom:

I always enjoy prints that just become part of our lives (and especially ones that let us keep using something that's going to the landfill otherwise)

The hamper has handles that break. For most people I think that'd be time to replace it. I didn't want to do that, so I designed a new handle based on the handle on the short end. This ended up being a mistake later, I'll explain then.

I printed 2 handles (the connection between the two is just to make the printing work better since it can print the two pieces as one piece, then I just snap the two apart and clean up the spot they were connected)

I used my rotary tool to remove the remnants of the original handles. I should have used the cutting tool but I had the diamond grinder so I used that. It worked fine, I was able to fully remove the old material. A quick test fit confirmed that the handle design was pretty good (I just used a tape measure for the measurements so this was a real potential problem)

I went to the long side, but realized that the design of the hamper was different lengthwise than widthwise. I removed a couple tabs that were going to block the new handle, and instead of putting it in as designed, I just put it sideways, which fit.

I put the two in and added gorilla glue. Gorilla glue requires water to foam up, so I wet all the parts. Now everything is fitted, the glue is in, and it's just drying now. I'd consider this repair a success, and I expect the strong PLA part to give the whole hamper a lot more stiffness at those parts, and there's significantly more material in these spots that break. If the other two handles break, I'll just print two more, and at that point I can't help but think that the hamper will be bulletproof.

I have the same laundry basket, and the handles are broken:

p1mrx,

Removing CO2 from the atmosphere is fixing things ASAP. The alternative is leaving it in the atmosphere.

p1mrx,

I wonder if boiling water would be a good disposal method? Plant matter can probably be flushed down the drain if it’s properly dead.

p1mrx,

Do you boil tomatoes before eating them?

p1mrx,

DNC should just pick Jon Stewart or Tom Hanks or somebody. The previous president demonstrated that there are no qualifications beyond people liking you.

p1mrx,

dude just summoned a mask, kneepads, and giant hammer from nowhere

p1mrx,

I listed the 5 possible digits. What’s missing?

Why does filament not stick to the glass? (midwest.social)

You can see where around corners and even some straight runs it is peeling up. I’m running first layer at an agonizing 15 mm/s. Using hatchbox pla filament, just dried in dehydrator. 200° nozzle and 70° bed. The glass is freshly cleaned with soap and water, I just did several atomic pulls, I’ve trammed at different heights...

p1mrx,

If your printer has a touch sensor, then raising/lowering the entire bed has no effect on the first layer. The Z offset defines the difference between the touch point and the first layer.

I think most people calibrate the Z offset for 0.2 mm, and then never change the first layer height.

Edit: oops, this thread is a month old.
