I see some people discussing such as Silver Spoon. On the Anime World Order Discord, I saw it mentioned that is no longer available to stream on Crunchyroll as of June 1st - just in time for Pride month.

Apparently a lot of other Ikuhara shows are now unavailable as well: Mawaru Penguindrum used to be available on HiDive, but now only the compilation film is available (the same goes for the Blu-rays); similarly, Yuri Kuma Arashi's streams sank beneath the waves along with Funimation's site. At least Sarazanmai is still streaming on Crunchyroll and available on Blu-ray, but who knows how long that will last? After all, Utena was licensed to Crunchyroll via RightStuf (who are now owned by Crunchyroll)

I still buy some physicl manga. I do perfer it, but have no room to store it and there is so much. I am mainly finishing series I started before I went to emanga. Photo of this summers physical purchases, include She is So Cheeky For a Commoner and the next volume of My Job is Yuri, as well as two volumes of Whisper me a Love Song.

pcas,
@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@chikorita157 @NaraMoore I don’t know ways to rip from current reader apps, so I buy a bunch of physical manga and send them off to a scanning service. This also leaves me with digital copies of some titles that aren’t sold digitally (eg Nausicaa), but without some digital-only titles (eg Chihayafuru)

absolutely wild that a us senator admitted publicly that part of the reason the US is banning TikTok is because there's so much pro-palestine content on the platform

"We can't brainwash our citizens with censorship we DEFINITELY don't do on TikTok so it has to go"

what a clown lmao. If they really cared about TikTok storing massive data on us citizens they'd pass privacy laws that gut American big tech too.

But no, it's a law rooted in deep racism, both towards Chinese people and now towards Palestinian people.

Embarassing

My real life D&D stats

In other words, useless.

CHR: 9

INT: 13
WIS: 16
DEX: 8
CON: 8
CHR: 6

I can certainly buy a Dexterity of 8, but I’m skeptical my Constitution should be equally low. Also, I’m flattered by the high Wisdom score, but I would have expected it to be lower than Int. Charisma seems to be pretty low among all of us listing our test results…

pcas,
@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@mdmrn I’m not sure about my Strength - I had to take guesses on a few things like total press weight. Overall, I notice that all of us come in under 63 attribute points: the expected value of rolling 3d6 for each attribute without rerolls or any other dice chicanery. So I guess that’s a decent method for generating ordinary people, at least.

TIL there were 218 episodes of Urusei Yatsura and they all happened in a single season.

@tojikomori I wonder why they decided to split up the early episodes? That isn’t done on Crunchyroll or the Wikipedia episode listing

Here's an assertion that should be fairly agreeable with a second of consideration:

In a trad game, when it comes to how much gravity the game mechanics exert on play, the pull of the character sheet and the things the player imagines based on it is notably stronger than the great majority of of other rules. It's the dwarf star of rules gravity.

image/jpeg

pcas,
@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@LeviKornelsen I half agree. The character sheet is about as much if the rules as the player can see at any one time, so I’d expect it to have a large influence on players who don’t keep a bunch of additional mechanics in mind…but I think the design of official characters sheets obscures rather than reveal rules that are actually used.

Look at all the space set aside for attributes- how often does 5E actually care about attribute values? Meanwhile the list of actions is crammed in the bottom right with Attack and Cast Spell given just as much space as Shove, Dodge, and Dash. Players will think about the former 2 much more than the latter 3

pcas,
@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@LeviKornelsen do you think that perception survives play? I would expect it to have an effect on first impressions, only to have players realize in just a few levels that 5E only cares about. I’m just guessing, though - I don’t know a significant number of 5E players

@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@mdmrn @Eidon @mono Call of the Night. You should now be able to read the whole series through Viz Manga. There was a 12 episode anime adaptation of the first 4+ volumes; a second season has just been announced. I really liked the anime, and it features multiple songs from the group who did the recent Mashle OP.

pcas,
@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@mdmrn @Eidon @mono I think the Viz Manga subscription is around $3/month, unlike Shonen Jump which went up to $5/month a while back. You can try reading the free chapters at https://www.viz.com/vizmanga/chapters/call-of-the-night

pcas,
@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@mdmrn @Eidon @mono I’d imagine it’s because they’re for different publishers: Shonen Jump subscription is for Shueisha properties, Viz Manga for Shogakukan (Shonen Sunday etc.).

pcas,
@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@mdmrn @Eidon @mono btw I checked and the Viz Manga subscription is $2/month; that probably means the $5/month cost I mentioned is because I pay for both

All of Namie Amuro's music has been scrubbed globally online. Gone from YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

No word on if this is on Amuro's side or AVEX. But Amuro hasn't been seen or heard from in over 5 years.

If you have her CDs, rip them now for backup. If you don't... well however you decide to acquire her music going forward, this is a judgement free zone.

#NamieAmuro #JPop @jpop

pcas,
@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@nazokiyoubinbou @gnitro @jpop it looks like just a couple weeks after she retired in 2018 a bunch of things like her FB page, fan club, and online store got shut down. That leads me to suspect that the music vanishing is a result of letting her contracts with her publisher expire

https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/music/fans-panic-as-huge-pop-star-namie-amuro-completely-disappears/news-story/fe7252eb3bcee9cf224441e0a58ed820

pcas,
@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@nazokiyoubinbou @gnitro @jpop if I’m correct, it probably means there’s nobody authorized to make copyright-related claims about her works (DMCA etc). Not that a lack of authority necessarily stops companies from doing so anyway

@mdmrn Death Note would have been better if it ended the way that I understand the original live action movies did - L kills himself via the Death Note, but uses that predetermined death to allow him to feign dying as part of Light’s plans and is thereby able to defeat Light shortly before passing away himself

Last boost: between this news and the RightStuf merger into the Crunchyroll store, I’m left concerned about the state of home video purchasing. For example, Urusei Yatsura TV set 3 - due for release 10/31 - didn’t make the transition from RightStuf to CR yet, which means the only online sources I can find for it are Amazon and Robert’s Anime Corner Store. Similarly, Ascendant Animation mostly seems to only exist on those 2 stores now.

On the whole, I’m seeing a trend away from the ability to legitimately own shows, towards an all-or-nothing reliance on streaming sites. What happens when they change strategies or go away?

pcas,
@pcas@urusai.social avatar

@chikorita157 Sometimes there aren’t even Japanese releases! Setting aside the odd case of Samurai Flamenco (whose studio seems to have gone out of business before they could put out their own release of the show - though not before Anime Limited was able to secure a home video license), a number of recent Netflix exclusives have no home video releases even in Japan, including shows like Bastard!! and critical successes like Cyberpunk Edgerunners.

Also, I don’t know that Japan is great about keeping home video releases in production - I think they tend to produce a single run except for incredible runaway hits.
