Yeah. It was pretty funny to me because downdetector.com (run by the speedtest.net folks) had 4 times the error reports submitted for DDG than Bing. Bing has a bigger market share, so I think it’s purely down to DDG users being more technically-minded.

I’m kinda really tired of these inane and inaccurate takes on Musk’s tweet. He doesn’t tell her to “dial it back” at all. In fact he opens by agreeing that transphobia is great, but that it’s all Rowling talks about and she should diversify her content. That’s it. He’s not distancing himself from her or anything of the sort. These articles are dangerous to suggest otherwise in my opinion.

Not in America, but I’m trans and have a number of trans friends in the states who are really scared right now. I live in Australia and have participated in pro-Palestine protests (if that’s who you’re implying with that). I loathe Biden, I think he’s a shitty old white dude, and I wish y’all could do better. But if protesting against Biden allows Trump to be elected, then there WILL be far worse consequences, both domestically and abroad. Thousands of trans people will lose their lives, and countless more will lose access to life-saving care. He will likely cut off support to Ukraine considering how he’s ingratiated himself to Putin before. He hasn’t indicated he’d stop supporting Israel either.

Even if he could fit on it, calling it a plot hole still doesn’t make sense to me. I’d way sooner assume the character is just a chivalrous idiot that died for no reason, which does fit his characterisation and the plot of the movie.

Also clearly people who have never fallen out of a two person canoe/kayak and tried to get back in without tipping the whole thing over.

It’s kind of got some “jet fuel can’t melt steal beams” vibes to it. The beams didn’t melt. The fire was just intense enough that it caused the tempered hardening to fail. Without which, they could no longer sustain the load of the rest of the building above it.

Architectural materials are designed to deal with typical loads, plus a decent margin of error. Most people don’t have beavers in their walls, so bite force isn’t a typical load. Neither is a fully-laden jet airliner crashing into your skyscraper.

In my state of Victoria, in Australia, it’s required to use steel frames for construction of homes in bushfire-prone areas. Fire is a typical load that meeds to be engineered for. However, a single-story house (we build out instead of up when there’s the space) doesn’t need hardened steel beams, and without 100 floors to support it won’t collapse in a fire.

I’m not even a Swift fan, and yeah I get that she is ultimately still a billionaire. But she played on Friday in my home city of Melbourne, and that day she donated $100k to a local food bank system. I know that’s still a drop in the bucket for her, but that’s not chump change.

However, if you do some searching, there’s a stream of news stories of her donating large amount like that or more. The day before her first Melbourne concert, she donated $100k to the family of the woman killed at the super bowl parade. Two months ago she donated $1 million to a relief fund for tennessee tornado victims. Heaps more food bank donations.

Like, can we seriously just leave her the fuck alone? Musk is an alt-right piece of shit, she’s just a talented musician that actually works for a living. And yeah, I know she doesn’t work as much as some of the rest of us, but stadium touring is still brutal. Musk just sits on his arse all day tweeting and committing labour violations.

She’s also not the child of an emerald mine owner so there’s that too.

This is why I always put the Greens first on my ballot, in both state & federal and for both upper & lower houses. They’re the only viable leftist party in Australia imo.

As a leftist, the fact that everybody has just gone along with the concept that battery-powered vehicles are an everyday necessity is pretty frustrating. Long-haul trucks with batteries instead of freight trains. There’s a trial in Germany powering trucks on freeways with overhead lines. People with range anxiety dragging around a 500km-range battery for their usual 40km daily driving, just so they can do their once yearly road trip. When better public transport could solve this. We don’t need new battery technology, we just need to actually spend the money to improve public transport.

Most torrent sites, such as the famed Pirate Bay, advocate the use of VPN when downloading things via torrents, so it’s safe to assume that most users created fake email addresses and used IP spoofing software to remain hidden.

I don’t use a private tracker to hide my personal information. I use it because of the quality of torrents, rarely finding seedless ones and the speed with which they download.

Unemployment needs to jump 40-50%??? Is this guy seriously that utterly disconnected with reality? In Aus it’s never hit more than 12% in the last 4 decades, the economy would just collapse if unemployment got that high. It only got to 32% during the Great Depression in the US.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone in this thread mention Telecines at all. It’s a machine that captures the video and audio from the film print directly to digital. A lot of good Cam rips were filmed from the projection booth, and could conceivably be done by a projectionist surreptitiously. Telecines though, required a large piece of equipment and time with a print outside of hours. Likely you’d need to be a manager or owner to get away with it, or have their blessing.

I remember the excitement of finding a Telecine for a movie in theatres rather than a Cam. It felt like striking gold. I bet the people releasing those in scene groups would be treated like gods back then.
