Good news my Blackie Lawless notebook arrived
Scissors beside it for size comparison
He's wearing his "I Fuck Like A Beast" buckle

Robotron, to random

my wife is a massive kristin hersh fan eh and throwing muses but it's funny the couple TM records I absolutely love she doesn't care about too much - this first one really high amongst them. I asked her "why don't you have that?" and she went like "ehhh?" when we first met.
well i have my copy!

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@Robotron I used to know Throwing Muses back when they were just starting out. I saw their like 2nd or 3rd gig in Providence, instantly saw that they were something special. I was pretty close to them for a while, even playing bass for them for a short while before Leslie joined the band.

@Robotron I don’t have the handmade mimeographed sleeve. And my copy has a gouge of a scratch through the Elaine song so I can’t really play that.

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@Robotron I remember playing a gig with them in Newport and David, Kristin and Tanya were all sitting around a table gluing together sleeves. They handed me a record but told me I needed to make my own sleeve so I was like nah, I’ll just take the record.

@Robotron I also have a copy of the demo cassette that led to the 4ad album. Man, I saw so many Muses & Hersh gigs over the years, and they/she were always happy to see me, early champion of the their band. Tho last time I saw her solo I didn’t talk to her. It’s been so long it felt like I don’t want to be some weird dude from the past, reliving past glory or whatever.

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@Defiance @Robotron haha. Who indeed. Just some weird footnote to a band who has some devoted followers! Some dude who hang out with them at a pivotal point in their career and watch them launch when hey found a real bass player.

As far as I know they were all the same. Though I think they hand colored them iirc.

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@Robotron hindsite my friend. I should’ve had pictures of me on stage with the band but instead I get humble brag about it on social media.

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@Defiance @Robotron They are remarkable musicians and we’re really fun to hang out with, very funny people. Somewhere I probably still have a folder of some scraps of paper, clippings, set lists, fliers. Seeing that first gig with like 6 people in the audience was one of the most remarkable shows I’ve ever seen.

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@Robotron @Defiance well a bit of hot gossip is by the time Elaine left the band they were REALLY glad to see her go. They hated that Dirt on the Floor song.

@Robotron Do you have the insert with the missing back cover text?

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@Robotron Yep! So cool.

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@Robotron I got my copy in a cutout bin back in the 80s. So, insert but no 7”. Which I wasn’t aware of.

puffer, to mastodon
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

My yearly subscription for my preferred Mastodon client @ivory lapsed the other day, so I gave Ice Cubes another whirl. Nope. There are a few thing it has that I wish were in Ivory but it’s just not as smooth, like there’s a lag to a lot of the actions of a few seconds. No disrespect to the Ice Cubes devs, it’s a good app for the most part but Ivory is so smooth. If I’m not on the website it really is the best way for me to interact with Mastodon.

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@ivory Threading of replies in Ice Cubes works better. In Ivory, people’s threaded post show up both in a thread and as replies to the original post and it can be not intuitive to see what is replying to what. Also, links to other posts “quote toots” do display inline.

One thing I wish you did that Ice Cubes doesn’t either is being able to mute or block people right from the main timeline.

Don’t get me wrong tho, the overall Ivory experience is excellent. So many features rely on.

Toby Keith famously left the Democratic party in 2008 - the same year Obama became president - 'cause he said the "kooks" had taken over which I guess he meant the blacks?

Robotron, to random

3 things you might not know about Blackie Lawless if you're only aware of W.A.S.P. as like a cheesy cultural footnote in 80s metal

  1. He was in the New York Dolls, helped them finish the tour that Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan bailed out on
  2. His uncle played major league baseball and Blackie was good enough he could have likely as well but bailed because he wanted to rock
  3. Like Little Richard, he became a born again Christian HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAA

@Robotron I did not know.

@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

What I like about listening to vinyl has nothing to do with being an audiophile. Sure, I want the best playback system I can afford, and for sure don’t want to damage my records. For me it’s about the ritual and nostalgia. I like record stores, the physical objects of music that is important to me.

puffer, to random
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

Every time I go to download my digital-only (as in, I don't own the vinyl or CD) releases I pause, wonder, should I be downloading these as FLAC rather than 320Kbps? Then I look at the file size difference and think, that's so much more space, I'll need a bigger drive, more to backup. So I try to research, and realize that's an audiophile sinkhole that yields nothing useful. I'm unlikely to spend time a/b testing formats; my hearing is not golden anyway; my equipment just ok.
So ¯_(ツ)_/¯...?

What's your favorite pudding?

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@Robotron you can’t have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@Robotron I thought you meant pudding as the British do, as in desert.
