I haven’t shilled my band here in quite a long time. We haven’t been doing much this last couple of years to be honest as the singer has a wee baby but we’ll get round to some new bits eventually.
Chord chart for new track ‘1986’.
Inspired by the All In setting on my UA 1176 compressor, this riff has full chord strumming that needs a thinner pick. This might be the track that requires me to mic the Half Pint. As good as my other amp is into my audio interface, the Half Pint sounds better, even recorded on my iPhone. #guitar#gearsquad
@woolie@ology@ambergrey@NigelTufnel We’re talking picks? These are my pick of choice. The lettering is raised so the is a nice circle of ridges to grab.
Over on the digital lo-fi I wrote up a post about Steve Albini and what he meant to me as a musician, writer, aging GenX punk rocker. This all still feels unreal to me.
Who's got some music they'd like to have heard and written about? Need a few good tracks for this week's write-up. Send me links to what you're currently promoting!
Saw a post on here recently in my feed from someone that I no longer follow (it was a retoot) and it reminded me that the reason I no longer followed them is because they asked if they could give me some feedback on my song, and I said sure, and then they sent 3-4 PRIVATE messages telling me my voice sounded fake, my drums sounded dead, and proceeded to give me pointers on what vocal comping was 💀
@StillIRise1963
Yes! I’ve just saying “web search” it. I don’t use DDG either and I’m loath to tie the common vernacular to another private entity. But it’s not pithy I’ll give you that.
Had a great day so far for my birthday. Worked from home, went shopping for two hours, learned the bass line to the Quincy Jones version of ‘Summer in the City’, worked on Jobim’s ‘Corcovado’ on guitar, filled in 7.5 hours on Clockify
one thing that stops me from fully embracing 'old man yelling at clouds' were the "old" punk rockers in my town when I was in high school and listening to whatever Husker Du and whatnot and there were these guys who were so old they were probably 26 AHAHAH telling me "Yeah Husker Du were better when they were the Buzzcocks" and all this crap "Why does anyone do hardcore music after The Germs" and while I thank them for turning me onto good music I also thought and still do FUCK YOU
@SpaceAce 100%. Thing was for a lot of my youth I was pretty strident about my musical taste and I think back now to a lot of the contemporary music I could’ve been enjoying if I’d been even a little more open minded—tho this came and went. Now I don’t have the time or money to really investigate every thing that comes to my attention. Some stuff does break through, e.g. The Armed. But I would never have the hubris to say good music isn’t being made any more.
really upsetting to see former Wikimedia Foundation director and CEO Katherine Maher getting targeted by the rightwing outrage machine in her new role as NPR CEO. she's wonderful, and NPR is lucky to have her. i hope they stand behind her.
@thomasfuchs@molly0xfff The game they run is being vaguely socially liberal in their cultural & arts coverage so a lot of people read that as being editorially liberal, and allows other bad faith actors to push the narrative that it’s a “leftist” newspaper. When, as you say, it’s just neoliberal right wing.
