I SAVED ACE'S FOR LAST as a reward for listening to well especially Peter's ....
99% of people would say the classic on here is "New York Groove" and so I'll go along with them but I REALLY REALLY like the spacey, echo laden "I'm In Need Of Love" it's really awesome and druggy
It just occurred to me listening to "Speedin Back To My Baby" the only solo record that doesn't use female backup vocals is Paul!

@flockofnazguls @Defiance @SpaceAce I mean, it’s kinda dumb but it also kinda slaps.

If you were only bringing one synth keyboard with you on stage to perform, what would you bring up there? I’m asking because I have a vision of me, my guitar, and a stage synth I could stand near and use on and off. It would have to also carry some nice analog piano sounds at times. Not sure if it’s possible to do unless it’s a midi controller with laptop. But it’d be so cool if it was a standalone analog unit. The simplicity appeals. :blobcatcoffee:

@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@ambergrey Is this a money-is-no-object question? Cause if that was so, a sequential circuits’ pro 10. But something affordable and easy to transport, maybe a poly synth by Autura.

Johnny Mnemonic: Reloaded (1995)

I haven't watched this in years and I don't remember too much about it apart from lots of cool names and a Hollywood cash in on the internet / cyberpunk craze.

This is the Reloaded edition, a fan has edited together both cuts of the film (US & Japanese) to create a longer, fuller cut.

@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@UKFilmNerd Have you seen Johnny Mnemonic in Black and White?

puffer,
@puffer@esoteric.party avatar

@UKFilmNerd
Oh. It’s so good. Longo originally envisioned it that way. It’s like watching a different movie. It really highlights and amplifies the surrealism of it, the noir aspects.

@mforester @UKFilmNerd lol. Sure, put the tint at 0. Tho if you read the interview or watch the special features he explains how they regraded the film from a high res scan. It’s super crisp and high contrast.

Over on the blog I explored some thoughts regarding the bit rates of my digital music library. This is not a prescriptive, and certainly not scientific. Just me trying to end a debate I have with myself.

Party Party - Original Soundtrack Recording

New wave weekend! The Discogs seller who had that The Motels record was having a sale, all stock 50% off, minimum $20. So, Motels, this, and 2 other records, roughly $5/ea. Not entirely sure why I chose this, looked quirky. I remember seeing it in cutout bins all throughout the 80s/90s. Some goofy 50s covers; some really good tracks. Perfect $5 vinyl.

I wonder what the movie is like?

    @flockofnazguls absolutely. And Theory of Achievement!

    I first discovered Hartley when I was living in DC for a short while after college and just saw any movie I could, esp art & low budget. Went on a Tuesday with a friend, blind. One other couple there. When it was over they were grumbling how they hated it and we were amazed. I saw every other movie of his up through Henry Fool in the theater.

    @flockofnazguls oh I did not. I’ll check them out.

    I think The Unbelievable Truth was what we saw that night.

    It takes a lot to get me to care even the slightest about the band KISS.* But I'll publish/read anything that @SpaceAce writes. For the 50th anniversary of their first album he reflected on what made the band special. It's a really good post.

    *Don't get me wrong, I was an adolescent when KISS was the new hotness, so of course they were a favorite band. I even had that first KISS comic that my mom was so disgusted by she made get rid of it lol.

    Adrian Belew - Young Lions

    Got this for a good price recently. I was certainly an Adrian Belew fan in the 80s. Not obsessive, not enough to listen to a Zappa album. But I had a couple of his solo records, that first King Crimson reboot record, saw him in concert on the Lone Rhinoceros tour and with Talking Heads. This record has a Bowie collab, a redo of a Crimson song. All in all, A-.

    Every time I go to download my digital-only (as in, I don't own the vinyl or CD) releases I pause, wonder, should I be downloading these as FLAC rather than 320Kbps? Then I look at the file size difference and think, that's so much more space, I'll need a bigger drive, more to backup. So I try to research, and realize that's an audiophile sinkhole that yields nothing useful. I'm unlikely to spend time a/b testing formats; my hearing is not golden anyway; my equipment just ok.
    So ¯_(ツ)_/¯...?
