@eniko I can't help but remember what I've read about the backlash against handwashing when it was first discovered to save lives, because admitting it worked meant admitting that doctors had been killing their patients by accident.

I made some good progress on the new renderer for tonight! The shape in this screenshot is rendered as simple polygons with vertex colors instead of via ray marching, but this is still an SDF model. This is running at "interactive speeds", even though this is running with OpenGL emulated in software on a 15 year old laptop.

There's so many cautionary stories about evil genies twisting your wishes, but if I ever met one it would be a struggle to not wish for "flat design" to go away forever. It is hard for me to imagine what could be a worse UI trend than a design language that draws all of its aesthetic richness from poorly xeroxed tax paperwork.
