It's a Bank Holiday weekend. As a Brit I'm obligated to do some poorly thought through DIY. So I've just ripped up a vile entrance hall rug, and have decided to lay tiles. I have no idea how tiling works. I'll report back.

My soup maker packed up. I use it all the time to make lunch, so I thought I'd get a new one. What is going on at Morphy Richards that they sell this many different soup makers?

I’ve been pretty quiet of late, partly because of work stuff but also because my daughter got married! I love this photo taken from the sidelines of the official photos, this is all the mothers! Beth’s husband gets two mothers in law, as her dads’s second wife has been a huge part of her life. Sometimes “broken” families just mean that doors open to new people arriving in the children’s lives, and it can be a joyous thing if you let it be.

The cats have discovered a hole in a raised bed which I think is made by rats. Not sure what to do about that. Get in a rat catcher? Just accept I own rats now?

Today's running mission was to find bluebells and wild garlic. We succeeded, though we got very wet and muddy in the process! Shout out to my running buddy who brought tupperware on a run to collect garlic.

My parents are staying for a few days, so my dad is helping me with a new DIY project. Slide out understairs drawers. So far we've cut out the opening, bought a lot of plywood, and sawed up a bunch of pieces.

Python folks, if you were a person learning Python and wanted to build a web app (mostly consuming API data and doing stuff with it), which framework would you use? Bonus points for friendliness to someone coming from PHP, and something that represents good practices.

This is for me, I've been learning a bit of Python so want to build something useful mostly to me, but partly as a learning project as I learn best by building things.

I'm on a local group for people who have lost or found pets. As an early morning runner, and friend to cats, I keep an eye out for local missing ones.

However, what amazes me is the number of tortoises that are lost, or found just ambling down a road somewhere, and reunited with the tortoise-losers. Who knew that so many Brits owned tortoises? I've never met anyone with a tortoise, but apparently I'm surrounded by them, and the things are like Houdini.

It's just me and the cats today as my daughter is with her mother-in-law (we will celebrate tomorrow). I'm wondering whether to festively remove a sink—probably a bad idea unless I want to be expensively mocked by an emergency plumber—or re-oil the kitchen worktop in a suitably Christmassy manner.
