My brain, home from ten hours in the car yesterday: Guess I’d better set an alarm for late tomorrow morning because I could easily just sleep in, but can’t sleep too late.

My body at 6:30am: DONE SLEEPING NOW. GET UP.

I hear Google may start preventing users with ad blockers from viewing YouTube content.

You’d think that a company that makes an $80 billion a year profit wouldn’t be bothered by some of the users on just one of their platforms not seeing ads, but here we are.

I occasionally dabble tiny bits in programming.

Learned a bit of Fortran and a chunk of BASIC in high school (because I’m that old), and did some quick, word-based games in the latter.

More recently dipped a toe into Python when my tween was into it re: Robotics club at school. Even with basically an introduction to it, I appreciated its compact, efficient formatting.

Then I heard that Rust is more efficient and runs faster than Python? My curiosity got the better of me and I grabbed this.

I know people mock cargo shorts, but a) I’m a middle-aged dad so whatever, and b) I just re-discovered I can comfortably fit a decent-sized paperback in either one of the big pockets.

Wins all around.

Frustrating trying to pin something down that isn’t consistent.

I’ve had migraines for decades. Not crippling ones as some get, but almost always hitting in the wee hours, they take me out for hours and are easily the most physical suffering I’ve ever experienced.

Advil + feverfew usually works on them (the latter is a chamomile family plant — dry it to make tea or find it powdered in gel caps to swallow), but not always.

I usually get them in low atmospheric pressure, but not always…

Hey, anyone who uses spreadsheets:

Any suggestion for where to look in order to have specific cells truncate the contents to just show whatever it can within the set width of the cell (vs. its default to bleed across all the columns to show the full cell's worth of info)?

I have long-ass contents needed in a specific column of cells but I don't need to see it all. Plus I need to get to the column right next to it.

I'm using the LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet, if that clarifies anything.

Saw a vanity plate on a RAV4 that said MR UBER.

That’s all chips in on a gig economy.

Signed up for Mandy, that bizarrely go-to site for entertainment industry people trying to connect with others for various work opportunities, because they had a great discount for Cyber Monday sales.

But good lord, does their support team continue to suck.

Had a lady -- seemingly real, not like the surprising number of apparent bots and/or scam initiations --- who sounds like she may be interested in buying the old car we're selling.

But she asked by email today if I can "guarantee [her] that [she] will not be disappointed by purchasing" the car.

And I politely replied that, um... no? Because I can't know what she may or may not find bothersome or troublesome later.

But I offered to meet her wherever she'd like to see it, and...

Oh, man, I'm getting SO tired of issues with this laptop.

Latest: Upgraded to Windows 10 and upgraded the storage to SSD and since then, the wifi sporadically disconnects. Or won't connect in the first place.

Took it back to Best Buy, who did the upgrades, and they maintain there's nothing evident wrong with the network adapter. They couldn't help. So I'm thinking there's something about the new additions that isn't playing nice with the old hardware somehow?

But MAN, is this a pain.

To everyone who still talks on their phone like a phone instead of holding it out in front of them with the other person on speakerphone and yelling at it:

Thank you.

Checking out a new(ish) band from Antwerp called Boskat.

Not sure if that’s pronounced like “Bow scat” or “boss cat”, but either way, they’ve got a cool sound I like.

We’ve decided we want to get a warm, furry pet of some type. We’re animal lovers in general, so have been considering a dog or a cat.

My teacherwife was leaning toward a dog.

Which I was fine with.

Then she realized she’d probably be doing most of the training (and… er… cleaning up) when she was off next summer.

So then she was leaning toward a cat.

Which I was fine with.

Then she saw a bunch of videos of cats being total assholes.

So guess who’s back to leaning toward a dog...

A friend suggested I should give the 40K Warhammer novels a shot.

And I did.

And there’s five pages of dramatis personae to start with and it drops you into interaction among a lot of those characters and I’m preeeeeety sure it’s more for someone with some — ANY — familiarity with the game and the universe. Because whoa, momma, my head was spinning.

I shelved that for now and instead started The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker. So far it’s way more my speed.

Preeeetty sure I’m done with Breath of the Wild. And so I guess other Zelda games.

Tonight I had my long-time suspicions confirmed that it’s a lot more “travel around and do random things to discover how stuff works” than is my scene.

A place I needed to get to was in an area where I was taking damage from being so cold. Hunted all around to try to find a way to get warmer clothing or wraps, or something.

Nope.

Finally asked my daughter what to do and she said

Any anime fans have advice for where I can see Gurren Lagann via legit methods from here in Canada?

The friend who recommended the series paired it with a morphing website that keeps changing to offer it for free despite routinely getting shut down, but that’s not my thing anyway plus the site is based in Russia, so yeah, no.

What if the robot uprising is overcome not by humans fighting back, but rather preempted entirely by people taking a sharp turn soon and getting so tired of technology that they reject it wholesale and become Luddites before the uprising can really get started?

Hey people:
I’m in Ontario, Canada. My step-mom in B.C. said we should look at getting some mason bees (a thing, evidently) to hopefully help out our flagging blueberry bush.

But the only local place we could find that normally gets in boxes of bees (a thing, evidently) says that a bee expert he knows says recent studies have suggested that mason bees, a west coast native, may threaten Ontario bees.

Any idea if that’s the case? Or where to get an Ontario equivalent to mason bees?

Just had a hankering for eggnog. Which is weird in summer days where we're getting up to feeling like a humid 36C/97F+. But here we are.

Come on Christmas season, I guess? 🤔
