It feels like the long-tail is gone from Google Search.

"Gems" that I used to be able to discover from Google Search results, by looking at page after page after page of results โ€” are gone (from the Google Search results)!

Including stuff I know used to be there โ€” gone!

I even checked some "gems" that I discovered many, many years ago (from Google Search).

The URL for those "gems" still work.

But they seem completely gone from Google Search.

I was curious how a Threads account shows up on the Fediverse.

I have seen Threads users on the Fediverse โ€” but I noticed that when I tried looking up many people, they didn't show up.

Later, I saw mention of Threads users having to enable Fediverse.

This is how a Threads user turns on "Fediverse sharing" on their Threads account.

It doesn't take much effort to make your website join the Fediverse and the open social-web IN A VERY BASIC WAY,.

And by "VERY BASIC WAY" I mean โ€” being able to look up your website using a Fediverse ID and have a profile show up.

I did it for my (new) personal website last night.

A least one server is trying to do 'nodeinfo' lookups on my (new) personal website.

I haven't implemented nodeinfo yet either.

(nodeinfo is one of the other protocols used on the Fediverse. Most people are aware of ActivityPub. But there is more than just ActivityPub.)

The nodeinfo lookup probably has nothing directly to do with what I described in this thread. But because someone put the Fediverse ID to my (new) personal website in a post.

I just did a video call with a bunch of people.

There was a ChatGPT based agent in the call.

(It "listened" to the audio, but responded in text.)

It was answering some people's questions.

It was very limited โ€” but interesting.

I know I am not the only one to notice the similarity, but โ€” it feels a bit like (a very primitive version of) the computers on Star Trek.

Frames are interesting in many ways.

There are a number of ways it could be improved. And they (the Farcaster team) seem to have that in their mind, too.

It is simple to develop Frames applications.

It does NOT bring with it the security & privacy problems the Web has.

It can fall-back to OpenGraph and the Web (when the client doesn't understand Frames).

You don't need to deal with an "app store" and all the B.S. that comes with it.

I want a Fediverse version of it.

Guess what โ€” Mastodon & @bbcmicrobot are in the news.

BBCMicroBot is a fun bot that started off on Twitter in February 2020 โ€” although it is on Mastodon now.

People send it BASIC code โ€” and it runs it and posts the result!

Many use it to create "pixel-art"

BBCMicroBot migrated over to the Fediverse in Nov 2022, as part of the Twitter-migration.
