Shodan is running their $5 lifetime membership special!

Get it while you can!

https://account.shodan.io/billing/member?language=en

requiem,

@thegibson I didn't even know what this was, but it looks potentially useful for future cyberdeck projects so for five bucks it's pretty hard to pass-up.

requiem, to random

Damn, this “just works”

#gamedad #pico8

requiem,

@rasterweb I'm not convinced of it's practicality, but cool to know it works :)

Would you need to upgrade for hardware reasons, or just because regular pico-8 doesn't run on your device (I never did find out why that is...)?

requiem,

@tillshadeisgone this is awesome, thank-you for taking this on and never hesitate to ask your fellow admins if you need or want any help keeping the lights on!

Hey kids! Guess what time it is…

requiem,

@rasterweb this guy gets it!

I've been checking out a ton of PICO-8 games lately. One of my fav things that some game devs do is unlimited lives.

I get the whole "3 strikes and you're out" in baseball, and sometimes in life, but like... I don't want to die, I want another chance. Let me try again and again! (In games & life.)

I did see a game where it gave you 100 lives, and that's cool too, because you know what? We all screw up sometimes.

99 more chances to get it right is still pretty good.

requiem,

@ifixcoinops @rasterweb @troublewithwords funny you bring this up (lives) Raster, I think you’re going to like one of the games I’m working on…

You know what worked really well for paging people for emergencies?

Pagers.

My last pager always beeped when I was paged. It ran on a single AA battery for about six months and would throw a low battery warning for about two weeks before it actually died.

It beeped and it buzzed, always.

Now I get paged by an app on my phone. If my phone battery is dead (lasts about 24 hours), I miss a page. If the app stops running in the background with no warning, I miss a page. If the is gets updated and screws up my settings, I miss a page. If some stupid DND setting gets engaged, I miss a page. If I’m somewhere with a less than perfect signal, I miss a page.

You get the idea.

It’s really frustrating to me that the assumption that there should be just one thing that does everything has led to the elimination of things that did their one job perfectly and we’re left with something that does everything poorly.

Maybe this is find for consumer devices, but it’s insufficient for professionals.

While the built-in code editor for PICO-8 is handy and all, just like other built-in editors it can be a bit... limited.

I managed to get external editing set up using Pulsar (formerly Atom) for a little more room.

Just do all your saving in your external editor and hit control-R to run things in PICO-8.

requiem,

@rasterweb tbh I love the pico-8 editor, just feels right.

requiem,

@rasterweb for me that constraint feels like a good thing.

ofc I leave the #gamedad in the other room the first night I have it and get struck with insomnia

requiem,

@ifixcoinops you gave us the perfect name, now I don’t have to try and memorize the crazy original one.

Unfortunately if I go get it the dog will wake up which means everyone else wakes up and then other problems ensue 🤣

requiem,

@ifixcoinops I was about to explain why it didn’t end up in here but realized it was venturing into TMI.

Thank you spouse for the name and thank-you for encouraging me down this path with your writing.

So right now it looks like my best option for the Scout Trooper helmet lens is going to involve some

Im excited about that, it’s been quite awhile since I’ve put it to work tbh

requiem,

@thegibson if I had to do it over, I’d probably do the modeling myself around a standard goggle lens (my tank goggles are sooooo close!).

requiem,

@thegibson what did you do for your mando lid?

requiem,

@thegibson Velcro is an interesting idea tho…

Yeah it could just be a rectangle of smoked acrylic behind the facemask if it had been designed that way, but unfortunately there’s very little flat surface to purchase on back there.

We’ve traced a pattern and done some test fits with paper so now I just have to digitize that and then undigitize it back in acrylic 🤣

requiem,

@thegibson oooh welding mask… 🤔🤔🤔

requiem,

@maddiefuzz I have one of those for actual welding, but I also have some old manual masks that might work (although probably gas lenses because arc are too dark to see unless your staring into the sun…) @thegibson

requiem,

@thegibson that’s the title of my autobiography

requiem,

@maddiefuzz @thegibson there I fixed it

Emotions are weird, yo?

requiem,

@thegibson well that is very good to hear.

Good feels all around brother.

Gamedad in the house.

requiem,

@fewtarius this is awesome! Now I really need to check out JELOS!

@ifixcoinops @kelbot @zep @rasterweb

requiem,

@fewtarius got a chance to check it out and it seems to work! I need to learn a bit more about the player and the OS in general, but it's pretty cool you were able to add it so quickly.
