13 years ago, a sign was installed at a glacier in #nz, showing changes in the size of the glacier over time. At the end is a photoshopped version, speculating how it will look in 2100.
Want to guess how it looks in 2023 compared to the prediction for 2100?
@rimu I think this thread perfectly sums up the problem all along, that the warnings and predictions were always too tame, always too far in the future, always too easy to ignore. Relax, plenty of time to fix it.
Even as Iโm typing this, an energy ad just came on TV proudly committing to net zero by 2040. Not stopping now. Not even in five years. Nearly two decades from now. No rush.
@glyph Yes, AppleScript is so great! I'm surprised Apple has not made a decent IDE for it or promoted it more heavily because it's an obviously powerful and easy to use language.
That's the thing tho. You're reliant on the whims of Apple, a corporation.
Perhaps that is less bad than relying on the whims of a random collection of anonymous FOSS nerds ๐คฃ
@rimu Also, it's not just AppleScriptโฆ similar things apply when just using a framework like CoreLocation. (Quick, ask your Linux machine for its latitude and longitude. Can you figure out how in a few minutes?)
@glyph That's interesting. I moved from Mac to Linux because as a programmer I feel more free and empowered there. But I see now that only some people would have the time, interest and skill to exercise that.
What about a Mac gives you agency? Is it the usability?
