    Car sales in the UK are becoming dominated by big SUVs. I don't really understand why this is happening or what an SUV even is, other than "massive" and it's not great news when you much prefer a small hatchback

    @simon yep, reading a few motoring forums, they think the main driver is that the profits are greater on SUV's as they're cheaper to make

    For the folks at EcoEvo & similar servers: what do you think of hiding bugs, lizards, spiders etc behind CW? Is it a hindrance to #SciComm & trying to make these animals more appealing?

    @ubi @M_Gatta excellent point, there's things I just do not want to see so I block the hashtags. Can that be encouraged?

    I wish mastodon had "tags" for posts, like blogs did, so when you make a post you see a field for tags and are reminded to put some in

    @blahttodea I do not understand why everyone still there seems absolutely ok with this, my field (seabirds!) is hugely active and I honestly think not being on twitter is hurting my career. But no way I'm going to use that space, it's driving climate change denial, COVID hoaxers, on top of the day to day hate you listed, and the owner specifically encourages it. It makes me furious that my employer, charities I care about, people across my field, my friends - all absolutely fine with this

    Here's a question: I went for a nice walk around Ashington Community Woodland before work this morning. I got all of the words on this info board, apart from Kyst, and I can't find a specifically Geordie/Pitmatic/Northumbrian translation online, although I did see that in Scots it means Chest, so I most likely something to do with that. Does anyone know?

    Update! It's a chest, to keep things in down the pit

    Quick reminder that adding image descriptions doesn't take long and is quite a small thing to do, but can make a huge difference to someone who uses a screen reader

    Can any of you translate this sentance for me? It's referring to Oystercatchers but Google just babbles on about it wearing a sweater, which I don't think is right

    Post post post. Stick some hashtags at the end. At first I thought it was really quiet, but I quickly got back to posting for the enjoyment of writing rather than to just do numbers. Then people found me through hashtags.

    Follow follow follow. Try to follow at least 100 people. Follow anyone who writes what you find interesting. Not only will you have more to read, you'll make new friends! Hooray!
