I'm so excited for Lowell Pride tomorrow! It's the first Pride of the month and is also one of my very favorites.

Anyway, if you see me tomorrow, come and say hi! I'm torn on what I'm gonna wear, but it very well might be the blue silk dress with c-l-e-a-v-a-g-e.

@Impossible_PhD I hope you have a good time! I'm planning on going to my first pride this weekend. Maybe even my second one. 😮

    @rooster OMFG this entire thread is comedy gold 🤣 🤣 🤣 I LOVE IT!

    I wish I could contribute but sadly my femme voice is still pretty awful and I can only do a Maine "Down East" accent reliably. (Thanks Dad!) That wouldn't really fit in 😆

    I'll be taking next week off on SGW. Several reasons why, but generally busy. I'll be out of town for part of the weekend and....

    I bought a new car on Monday. My very first new car. For those who haven't, buying a new car is a Whole Fucking Process.

    So yeah. Taking the breather.

    Have you ever wondered what an anime that was the fever-dream love child of Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner might look like? Especially if it was made at the height of the cyberpunk swell in the mid-90s? And what if it had Big Trans Themes, both transfem and transmasc?

    Armitage III is that anime.

    And it's available to stream for free from the internet archive.

    I just learned that Naomi Wu, that sexycyborg lady creator, was raised as a boy because of China's One Child policy.

    And that it is because she was raised and had to live as a boy that she found a hyperfeminine, and particularly a super-busty, body to be extremely resonant.

    Looks down at her own tits.

    I... I'm just gonna sit with that for a little while.

    Wow.

    @shaggyzed@mas.to avatar

    @Impossible_PhD Wow. I'd never heard of her before and just spent the past couple hours finding out more. Bit of a rabbit hole!

    She's got some really interesting vids. The ones where she does get into personal stuff were very eye-opening and thought-provoking.

    The mess between her and Vice is awful, along with everything that's happened since. I hope she's doing ok these days.

    Okay, so, odd question:

    I've been struggle-bussing a bit over the last few days about struggling to find a home for my novel, and a lot of people have expressed interest. Obviously, since I'm trying to publish it, I can't share.

    I started a different novel shortly after finishing it. About 10,000 words done, but shelved indefinitely because I've got SGW and other stuff to write. I like it a lot, but I don't and won't have time in the foreseeable future to keep working on it.

    So... Wanna read?

    You haven't heard from me on the Cass Report because I'm busy at work, and halfway through the last of the Oh Shit articles. I haven't had a chance to read it in any detail.

    But from the skimming I've done, and even early scholarly rebuttals, it sure as hell looks like a textbook example of how to produce sham science, even independent of its impact on trans kids' lives.

    Of all the comings-out we have to do as trans folks, telling our parents is one of the very hardest. What it even means to be trans has changed so much that it can be incredibly hard to even get them to understand what your gender is.

    This week on , we've got "Oh, s#!t, my child just told me they're trans," a guide meant to be handed off to parents of trans teens and adult children, to help them get there.

    A friend of mine is getting ready for her FFS and was nervous about whether her forehead reconstruction would live up to her hopes. So, I decided to take a photo in strict profile, so show her my before, the virtual FFS mockup they gave me, and what they actually achieved.

    I realized afterwards that this was the first Pic in profile I'd taken since my FFS.

    And I was blown away, because what they actually achieved was beyond even my wildest hopes and dreams, brought on by the preview.

    Okay so

    I love rpgs, I'm a final fantasy girl, and ff7 was an absolutely formative game for me.

    Except for the Honeybee Brothel. Which was scarring. To this day, drag makes me deeply uncomfortable at best.

    I have not played the ff7 remake game because of it. Friends, including transfem friends, have told me that the new Honeybee scene is vastly better and reviews call it a celebration of queerness and just

    I keep seeing a man in a dress being made into an object of gawking.

    shaggyzed,
    @shaggyzed@mas.to avatar

    @Impossible_PhD It's not just you. I've seen both the original and remake of FF7, and that scene in particular. They both bother me in similar ways. The dance scene/minigame that Cloud does with someone there was done well though.

    I'm still unlearning the lessons I was taught by media portrayals of gender-diverse people in the 70s and 80s. On an intellectual level I have no problem with drag - it is an art form! But I still have that instinctive "eww" reaction sometimes. That's on me. 😦

    shaggyzed,
    @shaggyzed@mas.to avatar

    @Impossible_PhD What's interesting to me is the reception of those scenes by the person streaming the game and much of the chat also watching. Almost everyone there was younger than me by 10+ years. They absolutely loved the whole thing. It was a bit infectious, to be honest. I also learned early on how much of a meme feminized Cloud is in the trans community, so I'm not too surprised.

    shaggyzed,
    @shaggyzed@mas.to avatar

    @Impossible_PhD I get it, believe me. :blobcathug: I still worry about people just seeing me as some middle-aged man in "drag" (i.e., plain old fem clothing).

    Drag-based reality shows (which are ok per se) have contributed to that cultural view, I think, because that's part of the media consumed by the majority. For many, that becomes the lens through which they view all gender-diverse people: femininity as performance, without any nuance or context.

    shaggyzed,
    @shaggyzed@mas.to avatar

    @Impossible_PhD I remember when I used to read a lot of TG fanfic, I avoided almost all of the forced-fem stuff. I didn't like it at all. But I think a lot of people do go for that particular fantasy, which is fine by itself. Maybe that has something to do with the different reaction from a lot of the younger crowd. Perhaps they see a bit of themselves in Cloud's situation?

    I am totally talking out of my rear at this point, so take that all as you will.

    shaggyzed,
    @shaggyzed@mas.to avatar

    @Impossible_PhD You know, this is starting to sound like a good topic for a future SGW post. 😉

    So, Uhhh...

    Abigail Thorn sure does have a hoodie on in her preview for the next PT. It's, um... got an image.

    Either this is an esoteric reference to a sci fi thing I've missed, or it's a pretty clear reference to a kink thing that's hard to miss.

    And if so, good for her for living out loud!

    shaggyzed,

    @Impossible_PhD I caught the vid last week on Nebula. It was great, and a great collab too!

    Don't feel bad about the reference - I don't really know what it is, either! But Abi could probably wear a burlap sack in her vids and still look amazing...

    If you call yourself an ally, no you fucking aren't.

    As a member of a priveleged group who wishes to do the work of allyship on behalf of an oppressed group, you need to understand that it is a thankless job, and you will suffer for it. The only reward you will ever have is the satisfaction at seeing oppression being pushed back.

    If you claim "ally" for yourself, it's stolen valor, and a real ally is evident in their work. Nobody who is an ally describes themselves as such.

    shaggyzed,
    @shaggyzed@mas.to avatar

    @Impossible_PhD These days I tell people we need accomplices, not allies. When I'm asked about the difference, I tell them this:

    Allies are like cheerleaders on the sidelines. They root for you but don't really get involved. Accomplices play alongside you on the field. They have skin in the game. They're willing to get and give hurt, if needed.

    We need more accomplices - people willing to put their power, privilege, and bodies at risk when supporting us. We have plenty of cheerleaders already.
