I have to take a bunch of teens down to Elixir Music House in Cairns to watch some bands. I've never heard of the place, but I was ready to be the one old guy in a crowd of children.
I just looked at their Facebook page, I now think I'll be on the young side.
A confession. I am fully supportive of trans people, and have been for some time. Someone very close to me is in the early stages of their journey. But I cannot fet my head around the "they/them" pronouns. I try, but the language centre of my brain rebels. I think the problem is that it's plural. "She does", "he does", "they do". It doesn't compute to my brain. I'm not trying to make any point here, it's just where I find myself.
Anyway, I will continue to try to be a good ally. I'll master the language eventually.
Me: "Hey, Si, there's someone at the door for you"
You: "Who is it? What do they want?"
And there is your singular they. You're just not used to using it for a known person instead of an unknown person. That will change with time if you let it.
Good god. My 6 year old just used the voice command for the TV to play Teen Titans Go. The TV agreed happily and brought up Guyana: The Tragedy of Jim Jones.
This dragonfly was busy moulting or being dead or something. It ignored me completely. The intricacies of the pattern on its abdomen are awe-inspiring.
Things I accomplished cutting down the (now wasp-less) tree limb with an axe today:
*3 blisters
*skinned elbow
*aggravated damaged nerve
*sore hands
*broken axe handle.
Things I did not accomplish:
*Cutting off the limb.
I've cut 2/3 of the way through, damn thing is defying gravity like a Road Runner cartoon.
@si_fuller Given the catalogue of injuries you already have, this is probably not a wise thing to do. You don't want to add a broken leg or arm to your list of woes
One of the bridges on the edge of town got wiped out completely, taking the water pipes with it. Now a lot of Mareeba is isolated, and has no tapwater. My house is okay, but there's a lot of older people out that way.
