I just watched Good Omens for the first time and was touched by how they made the press spokesman for the nuclear power plants on the radio have Terry Pratchett's voice. He was himself a nuclear power plant press officer and l assume the character in the book was always based on him.

The #GamesMeet at the weekend was a lot of fun. You can always rely on pleasant and interesting company, boardgames new & old, German bread, specialty alcohols, and an unfeasible amount of lollies.

Less reliable was the boiler. On Saturday morning, everyone was wearing warm jumpers and etuvair was playing a fireplace video to keep spirits up. It did get fixed, luckily. (1/5)

After a MASSIVE comeback win against a higher level team they're through in the cup.

But that means a long coach journey, and the competition grants no prize money to pay for travel.

Leiden is: one intercity train station away from the airport (about 20 mins), just like Amsterdam; has all the historical and artistic value of Amsterdam and none of the sex or drug tourism; is extremely walkable and almost everything you want to see is within 1km of the station, literally everything within 2km; has a highly international population; is much less crowded than Amsterdam any time except the annual celebration of the lifting of the siege in early October. Everything is less tourist-priced as well.

A boat tour in good weather is a god-tier experience. In late spring through midsummer everything is coated in flowers.

I have lived here in Leiden for two years and been extremely happy, attached are photos I’ve taken myself.

Bon alors j'étais au bout de ma vie en arrivant à l'ambassade mais tout était enfin rassemblé et je suis tombée sur quelqu'un d'efficace et a l'écoute qui a taffé pour que je puisse aller chercher mon visa demain avant mon vol 🎉 Ça va faire un grosse journée avec plein de temps a tuer mais je suis hyper soulagée. Ça m'évite de dépenser encore 💰💰💰 pour décaler et plein d'autres désagréments organisationnels

My Mum just tested positive for covid (in the UK). I’m hoping she can get an antiviral such as Paxlovid or similar, but the UK is such a mess at the moment that I am concerned it might be difficult.

(She likely caught it at a village WI meeting. Or to rephrase, a meeting of elderly, high-risk women 🤦🏼‍♀️)

so let me ... um ... sweden and spain are really playing at 1 am my time tonight, is that true? All of y'all who flipped THE FUCK out when the netherlands and spain were at a reasonable US time, don't worry, your revenge is COMPLETE; most of the rest of the games have been absolute hell on all of the USians (with the exception of the great folks of Hawai'i, Guam & the Marianas, maybe Alaska).
