@siracusa @atpfm John sounds a bit anticlimatic about his long-awaited-finally-here, iPad Pro with OLED. A four minute review… from the hypercritical Siracusa? What´s wrong with the device? Was it not as massive an upgrade as he had hoped? Is the oled ipad just…. «fine» and perhaps not worth upgrading to considering the price if all you do is just watch movies on it?

@torsteinv I think it’s only worth the upgrade if you’re a TV snob like me who watches lots of video on it, or if you need the M4 power or new Apple Pencil abilities. Otherwise, an existing M2 iPad Pro is fine. We’ll see if WWDC changes anything.

I hadn’t heard of Windows Filesystem Tunnelling until yesterday. I was happier then. This idea is bananas. You can delete a file and make a new file with the same name (within 15s by default) and the NEW file will adopt the creation date of the DELETED file. This stuffs user logic into the filesystem layer to make atomic save operations work without changing user code. Horrible wild idea.

(i.e., a “home” timeline that shows the usual stuff, plus ALL replies and mentions, even from people you don’t follow, allowing the user to read everything by scrolling through a single timeline)

Hey @viticci - listening to @upgrade - you were asking why throwing up was the default response to a mismatch in human i/o sensors.

Not sure if this is the reason, but back in the 80s, when I was in grad school at MIT Media Lab doing VR stuff, we referenced the "bad berry" syndrome.

The idea was that humans evolved to, when perceptual systems mismatched, assume a “bad berry" had been consumed - so throw it up to reset the system.

Made sense to me then - still does now.

@Drwave @viticci @upgrade @ismh86 I’ve read this as well: if you just consumed something that, say, makes you feel like you’re spinning when you’re not actually spinning, it might be very bad for your health (perhaps even deadly). Puking may give your genes a slightly higher chance of appearing in future generations than people that don’t puke under the same circumstances. Repeat for many thousands of years and you get modern humans and motion sickness.
