i love how much the current wave of #AI fucks with the cultural tropes we had about computer intelligence. instead of cold, rigid, logical planners, they are moody lumps of intuitions, who respond differently when you ask nicely, have trouble staying on topic, and may just make up stuff that "sounds about right".

i think many false expectations are because we can't quite imagine computers doing things like that.

they still can't make good jokes tho 😅.

@ordnung ich vermute das problem ist bekannt; aber in letzter zeit kommt es oft (zb jetzt) dazu das wie website total überlasted scheint und nichts läd, aber wenn ich sie im incognito mode öffne funtioniert scheinbar alles normal?

wisst ihr was da lost ist? ich dachte, es hat vielleicht mit updates oder spamwellen zu tun. aber das erklärt nicht, warum es uneingeloggt funktioniert 🤔.

thinking about designing my own #computer again. don't expect something to come from it, but seeing other computer projects inspires me.

one thing that excites me most is the idea of having a self-organizing mesh network for connecting components. that doesn't seem like that extreme of an overhead computationally, but i wonder how far you can push it.

it seems like every peripheral protocol has some sort of controller, so i guess i'd just have a little router in each and call it a node.

it's pretty bewildering how much general lack of interest there is authoritarianism and how grows and maintains itself. given how widespread authoritarian beliefs tend to be, it's not exactly surprising, but just from a straightforward risk analysis it's seems so obvious to me: what kills people, what stifles and reverts human development? sometimes accidents, mostly authoritarians. how controversial is this, really?

tl;dw: you jump first, then while your pressure is lifted from the board, you pop up the board by stepping on the tail so it follows you.

here's something i don't understand very well: what makes drills and screws different? why don't drills screw themselves in or screws drill a hole? usually, at least.

i guess the rather pointy tip of a screw makes sense. but the differences on the sides seem less obvious. i guess drills are more "cutty" and screws more "push-alongy" but it's hard to describe and put your finger on it.

oh btw, what is that bullshit on the #web, where you open the URL of an image (and it served an image from there before) and suddenly it gives you a webpage? it's like the server knows exactly when i visit the adress directly. how do they do that, and how can i stop it?

so apparently that phrase i've often been hearing recently isn't actually about a "sorted past". instead, the past in question has been "sordid" all along. now, "sorted" at least is clearly a word, and my way of making sense of if was to think the past in question had a assortment of things in it, good and bad. like a spotted past but perhaps more varied.
