I'm planning to put together a bingo card for non-shipping relationships and people are giving me SO many good suggestions, and it just makes me wish all the more that there was as much a tradition of fics that explore these kinds of relationships too! I want to read about ALL of them, repeatedly!

apropos of nothing, I do in fact keep an annotated list of all the fandoms I've been in for as far back as I've been able to trace. there's nearly 50 fandoms on the list.

some are things that were major life-changing interests that took over my brain for years. some are things that I hyperfixated on for one month and then immediately stopped caring

some are ones I still love, some are ones I look back on with embarrassment

but oh my god that is so many fandoms

OKAY I have created the non-shipping bingo card!!! I managed to get it down to an 8 x 8 square 😅 look I didn't want to split it into multiple cards because sometimes to capture a character you Need to be able to invoke the interception of multiple squares!

damn, it's obvious how much ao3 has become the central place for fanfic to take place when we experience a day like this, with the archive fully down for hours and then only erratically up. I haven't read a single word of fanfic all day, and I don't remember the last time that's been true!

OH BOY canada only fully banned lead paint for households in 2005?!???

lead content was limited to 0.5% by weight in 1976, and canadian manufacturers stopped adding lead at all by 1991 for in-country sale. but. horrifying. even those dates are far too late tbh.

the league of nations began efforts to try to ban lead paint worldwide in 1921!! and the hazards of it were already well known for centuries at that time!!!!

my dad is looking for more historical cdramas to watch, and I told him I'd see if I could find some recs for him.

he's looking for cdramas that are available to watch free online (eg on viki), he prefers historicals, he enjoys some fighting, and previous shows he's enjoyed include The Untamed, Nirvana in Fire, Imperial Coroner, and Who Rules the World.

For those of you who watch more tv than me, what would you suggest?

ok so I'm looking for a music rec - I want something that's high energy, danceable and singable, for listening to when doing chores I hate. something like cobra starship maybe but less heterosexual? something that doesn't take itself too seriously.

but also. I'm extremely picky about modern pop-style music and if it's TOO catchy I will hate it.

and I can't give a lot of guidance because I barely ever listen to anything but trad-style folk music and musical theatre

any suggestions....?

Now that we are at the end of it, I feel like one of the main themes in the Banyue arc is about how much the heavenly court sucks. Which like. YEAH. and WHO'S ALLOWING that unpleasant culture to flourish, hmmm jun wu?!??

(context for the third quote is that Xie Lian is worried the Wind Master will put all the blame on Preceptor Banyue to protect Pei Jr)

Having taken all of one basket making workshop, staring at my laundry basket like "I could make that"

It's a three rod wale, followed by a French wale but starting two full rows of withy to have enough to make a big basket. Then three rod wale at the top again, with a different binding but I can see how it would be done. The handles have wires going down to the bottom and back up for extra security with heavy loads. The bottom is wood boards pierced to let the spokes be added for the walls.

due to a conversation about how none of mxtx's novels are actually a great place to start for a western fan with no familiarity with the genre, I'm now curious:

for those of you who have read more widely, what do you think would be the best wuxia or xianxia danmei for a western newbie reader, in terms of a cross section of plot comprehensibility / being engaging / english translation quality, etc?
