Took a shot looking up at the zenith last night. That feeling when you’re looking up at structures that extend 100’s of miles into the atmosphere 🤯

stargazerrob,

@grb090423 same!! You got some good views of the display then? What was it like where you are?

stargazerrob,

@grb090423 so great to hear that you got to experience that! The eye view might not quite have been as dramatic, but I think it was better in some ways, no camera could capture what it truly felt like to be immersed in the storm

Bright aurora!!

Happened to notice some anticrepuscular rays yesterday evening 😌

Very glad to be back imaging after a bit of a pause!! This was Montes Appeninus on Tuesday night. I love the shadows cast by the tall peaks, and how the mountains are just dots at the far end of the range.

stargazerrob,

The north. I am a fan of Mare Frigoris! Does anyone know anything about the horizontal rilles (or whatever they are) just catching the light here in Frigoris?

Tonight’s view. I went to try and get a snap of Pons-Brooks but got thwarted by some stubborn cloud unfortunately. Saw it visually through binoculars yesterday, it looked quite good. Still, a nice night to be out despite the occasional precipitation.

My progress imaging Saturn:

From left to right:

  1. 2015 - 6" Maksutov, phone digiscope
  2. 2016 - Mak & DSLR
  3. 2020 - Mak & DSLR
  4. 2021 - Mak & ZWO ASI178MM
  5. 2022 - 8" Newtonian &178MM
  6. 2023 - 8" Newtonian &178MM

I was lucky to get some okay seeing last night - better than anything I had in 2022. Quite a bit of headroom left with my current setup I think.

stargazerrob,

@johnefrancis thanks! Definite upside of planetary I think, the non-horrifyingnsss, what it’s possible to get with budget gear. Some deep sky astro cameras alone cost more than my whole rig combined

stargazerrob,

@mattkenworthy Thanks very much!

stargazerrob,

@Barredo 8 inch diameter mirror on the telescope yeah, and 178MM is a model of astro camera from a company called ZWO. The M at the end is for monochrome, and I think the number does relate to something

The terminator of last night’s 88% illuminated waning gibbous moon

stargazerrob,

The far east of Mare Frigoris, Lacus Mortis, Hercules, Atlas, and Lacus Temporis amongst other things.

Jupiter as seen from my garden this morning.

stargazerrob,

@bartvdpoel Took this with an 8" reflector and planetary astrophotography camera. Quite a lot of processing too, using the 'lucky imaging' method

stargazerrob,

@grb090423 thanks! 😊

stargazerrob,

@MarkMaguire thank you

This is probably one for #astrodon:

My ace DMI colleague @Hotblack43 is sending a fancy camera up to the #ISS with #AndreasMogensen on the #Huginn mission this week + calling for people to make + post full moon snaps here in RAW or NEF format (NOT Jpeg) tagged #NewMoonSnap

It's to help measure the earth's #albedo + perhaps solve an important #climate puzzle

stargazerrob,

@grb090423 @Ruth_Mottram looks like a very cool project, thanks for thinking of me! I don't have the right gear for what's needed here

Last night's Moon.
It was lovely. First time I've seen it for what feels like aeons! (There have been too many clouds.)

stargazerrob,

@grb090423 yay! :ablobcatrave:

Last night's view of Sagittarius

stargazerrob,

@grb090423 thank you! I’m enjoying the Milky Way being back at a not too silly o’clock time
