stoy,

“After many decades of civil service, it is time for the state to give back to our hard working representatives. Therefore they will be retired in januray of the year following their 65th birthday”

“January 6th has for the last few years been a reminder of an embarrassing moment in our history, well no longer! January 6th shall henceforth be known as a day of celebration, celebrating not only long and faithfull service but also new talents, skills and hope for the furue! Join us, as we once again rejuvinate our government to keep our nation strong and dependable!”

stoy,

Based on his record, a few articles snd forum posts explaining what should happen, all of which will be ignored by the legal system, there won’t even be a baliff giving Mr. Trump a heavy slap, which seems apropriate with how Mr. Trump behaves.

stoy,

Busses should not be battery powered. They run on fixed routes, put some wire up and make a trolly bus network, it lowers the demand for exotic materials for batteries, while also lowering the energy use of moving the bus as it removes the heavy batteries.

stoy,

I agree, but we are talking about replacing fossil powered busses here, why not pick the most energy efficient solution right off the bat?

stoy,

That’s fair, I jist watched a WTYPpod episode yesterday when they ranted about how cities remove the trolley wires with a future promise to get on battery busses, an increadibly dumb idea. So I was already a bit riled up.

stoy,

Unlimited range.

Batteries have a finate range, takes time to charge, and are consumed over time, trolley busses have a much longer life span than battery busses and even normal busses.

stoy,

Ok, so what you are saying is that the bus service should be replaced by rail:

Predictable - No random traffic, vastly imporves reliabillity of the system.

Disaster resistant - Less traffic in the system means less impact of disasters.

Time tested - rail has been used for longer than cars/busses.

Cost effective - After a large initial investment the large capacity of the system compensates for the large cost.

Idiot proof - this does not exist, but rail gets close with a lot of added control and safety systems to improve safety and reliabillity.

Gender bias in open source: Pull request acceptance of women versus men (www.researchgate.net)

Our results show that women's contributions tend to be accepted more often than men's [when their gender is hidden]. However, when a woman's gender is identifiable, they are rejected more often. Our results suggest that although women on GitHub may be more competent overall, bias against them exists nonetheless.

stoy,

Looking at their comment history they seem to allways include that link to the CC license page in some attempt to prevent the comments from being used with AI.

I have no idea of if that is actually a thing or just a fad, but that was the link.

stoy,

Yeah, that is my take as well, at first I thought it was completely useless just like the old Facebook posts with users posting a legaliese sounding text on their profile trying to reclaim rights that they signed away when joining facebook, but here it is possible that they are running their own instance so there is no unified EULA, which gives the license thing a bit more credibillity.

But as you say, bots will just ignore the links, and no single person would stand a chance against big AI with their legal teams, and even if they won the AI would still have been trained on their data, and they would get a pittance at most.

stoy,

Properly moderated it doesn’t have to be.

stoy,

This is too simple, groups of people radicalizing themselves is a very well known phenomenom, it has existed since humans started forming groups.

A good example are the terrorist groups during the cold war, Baader-Meinhof, Japanese Red Army and similar.

The groups may start as a group to work towards a new political system through peaceful means, then someone starts an informal competition about who is the “best” and more “pure” member, starting to subtly put other member’s down for not doing as much as they are.

Then it becomes a feedback loop, and soon you have a group that condems their own initial goals as counter revolutionary, and constantly moving the goalposts.

The algorithm itself doesn’t introduce this behaviour, but turbo chargers it by making people self radicalize mich faster by showing them an endless stream of people telling them how to be even “better” and even more “pure”.

stoy,

I would refuse any flight on a new Boeing plane (post 2019), but the 747 is a very reliable plane, and I would have zero problems with flying one today even after this event.

This is not Boeing’s fault.

stoy,

Welp, I had no idea about this, time to delete my gallery I have had for 20 years.

Stopped using it last year as it was just so slow.

stoy,

Sure, I may be too late now, but removing real content makes their platform less valuable overall.

stoy,

IT guy here, I can sort of accept Windows 11 from a user’s perspective, but the new Outlook is absolutely unforgivable.

It is a peice of utter garbage and will break so many workflows that I am scared for the future.

Microsoft built their dominance on Office, not Windows, specifically, Excel and Outlook.

Sadly almost every company runs Exchange and there is a lot of companies that either already run 365 or are migrating to it.

stoy,

Put in a long clothes rack, boom! walk-in closet

Watching the crazy speedruns of Half Life is mezmorizing.

This classic video of a segmented run is just stunning:

youtu.be/VtI5HM7GVGY

This is the current world record of an unsegmwnted run: youtu.be/nsr5qgpfaWI?

stoy,

If you get a bad time on level 3, you have plenty of chanses to recover on the next 9 levels.

Or, perhaps if you have a fantastic times on levels 3, 7 and 9 that earned time can be used to compensate on level 12, making the time possibly still good enough.

stoy,

Well normal surgical masks are designed to protects others from you, they don’t protect you from others.

A KN95 or N95 mask will protect you.

stoy,

Brass is antibacterial, it’s fine

I tried to, but I just coulnd’t stand the rythm or the rapper’s voice.

Sorry but the genere just isn’t for me.

The one song that might classify as rap/hiphop that I do enjoy is youtu.be/KD59LJX2r38 though is has a lot of pop in it, the video is quite cool, and I would be lying if I said that I would not like to have a fur baseball cap.

stoy,

I have had it happen several times with music, lastly with Opera and Classical music.
