stoy,

I just read the article, and as an EU citizen, I very confused when looking at the sample ID…

Why, oh why, would you ever need to put your adress on the card?

That is stored in the national database of citizens, surely?

What happens when you move?

And whoever thought that weight needs to be printed on the card is just delusional that it serves ANY kind of actual scurity purpose.

It changes constantly, there is zero use for it!

Youtube Rant from a paying customer

I used to use NewPipe back in the days of yore. Then I got Youtube Premium since it bundled in Youtube Music as well which I used. But the former’s app on mobile is a shit show. Even after paying, you are asked to tip random creators, purchase merchandise[ which are shown as actual ads below videos] and join channels to access...

stoy,

The algorithm issue is why I allways curate my youtube watch history, if I don’t, my recommendations would quickly be messed up after watching videos outside of my normal interests.

stoy,

Oh most deffinately, I tend to match non political stuff, but I have no idea if/how I am being affected.

The main issue with the algorithm is that it values engagement over everythibg else, so it will allway bring more extreme view points as they have more engagibg videos.

stoy,

Ok, so the only thing this article says is that it is possible for an EV manufacturer to build an EV factory in Europe?

stoy,

never tell the whole truth

This is dumb, and in many cases outright illegal.

If you are giving testamony in court you are required to tell the whole truth regarding the situation.

There are absolutely other times when you should tell the whole truth, so this statement is just dumb.

stoy, (edited )

“To be an adult, you need to know when it is apropriate to be childish”

“Never paint the devil on the wall, unless he stands in the hallway, so make sure you have some paint at home”

“Honesty lasts longest”

The first advice here basically boils down to “remember to have fun in a responsible manner”, I like the original phrasing better as is more fun and also implies as shitload more knowledge.

The second advice is a modified version of a Swedish saying, it boils down to, “don’t expect the worst, but if it happens, take notes and learn, oh and you should have a pen and notebook at home”. I like this as well as it again tells you to relax, but learn from mistakes and be prepared to learn from them.

The third advice is just common sense, life just gets so much easier if you act and speak honestly, this obviously doesn’t mean to be brutaly honest or blatantly selfish as long as you are honest. But rather avoid situations that would require you to lie.

EDIT:

I just thought about another peice of advice:

“If you have nothing to hide, then you can’t be trusted”

We all have secrets, some are just embarrasing, others can destroy lives, stating that you have nothing to hide is one of the worst ways to try and gain trust, since it means one of two things:

  • You are a liar, as previously stated everyone has things to hide, so you are just plain lying.
  • You won’t keep a secret, if asked you will tell others priveleged information given to you.
stoy,

A partner having a rule to say that you should NEVER tell the whole truth would be an instant red flag in any relationship I am in.

The fact that that kind of rule exists for them means that they will never be completely honest with me, and I won’t accept that.

Now, obviously, there are times when you use a white lie or omit stuff, that is normal, but to constantly omit stuff, to the point where a rule is needed?

Nope.

stoy,

They could have made a more caring ad…

An old guitarr being played and recorded, the microphone is connected to a bright white cable going off screen.

An old camera lens mounted on a new camera body taking pictures of different subjects, a bright white cable is connected to the camera and goes off screen.

A few old tubes of paint are squeezed out onto a class painter’s palette, a bright white cable goes from the palette off screen.

An old arcade cabinett being played and enjoyed, the camera zooms out through the arcade and a bright white cable from the cabinett goes offscreen.

An old typewriter being typed on, with a bright white cable going from it offscreen.

An old cash register in an old general store, bright white cable goes from the register off screen.

An old film projector playing in an old cinema, bright white cable goes from the projector off screen.

A DJ playing an analog turntable, bright white cable goes from the turntable off screen.

A nurse in a retirenment home reads a binder of medical data, bright white cable from the binder goes off screen

It keeps going like that, and at the end you see all the white cables connected to a hydraulic press that starts opening, revealing the iPad Pro, showing scenes from every clip we saw before.

stoy,

I am an IT technician and have been for the last decade and a half, I have no real desire to switch fields, though I would not decline a fat creative consultant check from Apple if they use my idea…

What is the benefit of closing Studios? Why not sell them?

Yes, this is in relation to the closing of Tango Gameworks and Arcane Austin. Is there some immediate monetary benefit behind it that I have no idea about? Is it so they can keep the IPs and not have to deal with the developers? Are the Studios too expensive for anyone to buy? I honestly don’t understand how these executives...

stoy,

Technically?

Nothing.

Realistically?

Money, you need money to get an office, money to pay the bills, money to pay the staff, money to buy the tools the devs will be using.

Also, some staff will be headhunted during the process of setting up the new studio.

stoy,

Neither of these are physical entities, making the question pointless

stoy,

No, the only time software actually becomes physical is if you print the source code:

stoy,

The difference is that they are stored magneticly/electronicly on a drive, that means that it is just a change of property of a physical material that change, not any addition of material as ink or toner

stoy, (edited )

Well, isn’t it a point of philisophy to nitpick and explore conceptual differences?

stoy,

Hey!

German is not the only language to use compound words!

Swedish is another good example of a language with compound words.

The best compound word I can come up with is “Uppfinnarmissöde”

Uppfinnar - Inventor

missöde - misadventure or mishap

So “uppfinnarmissöde” would translate to either “inventor mishap” or “inventor misadventure”, I prefer the latter as it kinda rhymes when you say it.

What is something you can’t live without, technology wise that saves you time?

I have to say it’s my virtual assistant I’ve made. It saves me a lot of time with making reminders and such alarms for meetings or interviews, music etc.

stoy,

Water infrastructure.

Be it indoor plumbing or a flushable toilet or a water treatment plant, without water infrastructure modern civilization would be impossible.

stoy,

I should be able to remove my name from the code and upload it to Github.

Word of caution though, you can only edit the page in by editing the HTML code directly.

stoy,

I am currently researching if being alone 90% of the time has any impact on the prospects of finding a partner.

After 37,5 years of constant research I have found a quite negative link between being alone and finding a partner

stoy,

Constant abuse of user’s data and disregard for the security and integrity of said data.

Another thing was the madness that is/was the Horizon computer post office scandal in the UK.

People had their lives ruined and some even killed themselves due to a faulty computer system.

I can’t do it justice here, but there are good videos about it on yt.

stoy,

A classic expression that explains it better is “They are not hurting the right people”

So people want to hurt other people, but is has to be the right people.
