:blobcatpeek: i get the urge to buy bread

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@Jain @iska It's not that much effort!

  • Pour all the shit in a bowl (1-2min)
  • Make the dough a big ball using your hands (1-2min unless fucked up the water:flour ratio)
  • Wait 45min-1h for it to expand under a blanket
  • Roll buns for 10mins while the oven heats
  • Bake for 10-20min idk till the buns look ready

That's like 15mins of actual work. By buying ingredients to storage won't need to go shopping so save even more time! Just do it! Do not think! Do the bread! :ablobcatbongoangry:

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@Jain @iska Don't tell me you are one of those people who buy microwavable pancakes and crepes too? :blobcatthumbsdown:

Bread is literally just: Flour, water, yeast and any sort of vegetable oil. That's... like... what are you doing in your life if your kitchen has none of those?! Yeast I understand, but that would still be just one thing to buy. And dry yeast lasts for months in room temperature...

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@Jain @iska Try it sometimes! Pizzas even with ready-made dough are more work than simple bread buns. But fine. Go go capitalism, grab those plastic wrapped breads!

(Don't worry I'm mostly just shitposting)

@Jain @iska Mister. What is that see-through magical window through which I can yonder thy buns?

Tomorrow's my surgery (for real this time). AaaAaAaaaaa

Thankfully my brother said they could drive me home afterwards if it ends between 8-10 pm. Guess I'll have to just hang in there if it ends before lol

Or they forget to wake me up in time and need to pay for a taxi...

I am debating if I should get a rice cooker. Is there anything I should watch out for? How much money should I spent for a cheap (but okay) one?

Please help me by answering or reposting! 💜

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@kura Personally I wouldn't get one. Cooking rice normally on the stove takes bit longer, but the result is the same as these "multifunctional" rice cookers. Once you look inside them you see they are all just electric stoves anyway... Cheap rice cookers burn the rice also more often than doing it on the stove (haven't burned rice on stove yet in who knows how many years...).

Just use a small size steel kettle, wash/rinse the rice before throwing it in and follow 1:2 rule on rise and water. Make only as much as you eat, the small kettle helps for that. Use a lid made for the kettle to avoid leaking too much steam. Keep the heat on low so it is just enough to make the water bubble but not boil like pasta water.

Once you get the routine down it is as easy as pushing couple buttons.

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@kura I see. I love my ceramic cook top on the oven, those old ones are also a bitch to clean.

You might want to opt for a small induction stove on the side? Like two heaters model shouldn't take much space and could help reducing power usage when doing sauces etc.

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@kura I've never used gas so not sure if it is good or not. I personally wouldn't trust myself around one though lol

I get you with the lack of space... So if can't have an extra stove top on the side I guess a rice cooker does the same thing (for rice). You could try the lottery called Amazon electronics shopping or check any local stores that have a reasonable return policy. Like I mentioned, cheap rice cookers are into burning the rice and lack controls to control the heat to stop it from happening. So might need to return if yours is doing the same.

susie,

@icedquinn Honestly singing at work should be a thing. Or better yet doing whatever the fuck you want as long as you can still finish your duties on time. Want to watch a soap opera on the side? Cool. Have earphones so deep in your skull it is seen vibrating? Nice. Wearing no pants and--- w-wait, what do you mean HR is calling for me?

not sure how people tolerate these AI girlfriend things. LLMs tend to be dumb little shits :neocat_thonk:

is there some super cool thing i missed? i saw people doing something with vector databases for "memory"

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@icedquinn @TURBORETARD9000 @freon Shit take, but anything requiring active participation from other human beings shouldn't be a right. Forcing other people to do so infringes on their personal freedom/rights. If someone is willing to do it by their own free will then it doesn't need to be a right to begin with (but not everyone finds someone willing to do that).

Capitalism of course has loopholes for the rich in this regard too.

However once the human element gets "solved" (robotics/cyborgs/real AIs maybe?) then I can see it becoming a basic human right (to have access to something that provides this service).

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@icedquinn @TURBORETARD9000 @freon I'm one of those voluntary loners who don't want to participate on that song and dance. I get it though. Humans are a commodity for all services, so it makes sense people are trying to benefit from their target demographic as best as they can. That is why for example Tinder did the great bait and switch from being a "good" and affordable alternative to expensive bars, only to get turned to a gacha game with fake profiles and whatnot (I don't use Tinder but AFAIK that is what happened).

I'm not old enough to remember what dating before the internet and mobile phones was like. However (again AFAIK) people paired up by being in close proximity for long periods of time. So workplaces, hobbies, small towns or just visiting the same social places on the regular. Not really speed-dating, Tinder or any other "quick meetups" sort of way.

Also women were "traded" as a commodity by being paired with men by social/monetary pressure and their families setting up dates/bringing up good candidates for grandchildren. I don't think that happens at all anymore, but it was one way to "make connections" by involving family networks.

Sadly hobbies and social gathering places are pretty expensive these days. One thing people still claim to be a thing for singles to mingle are pair dancing events/festivals. Might be just a Finnish thing though. We call them "latotanssit" which means literally translated "barn dances".

@puniko It's so annoying these are timed events. I'm just finishing up with Inazuma so I haven't had the chance to do all these Fontaine events yet (nor do I want to spoil the story too much).

Why do people don't like it when I want to pay with a 50 euro bill?
Sometimes i simply dont have smaller bills when i visit Germany and i always get that "really..." look

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@Jain Oh look mister moneymaker, rockefeller waltzing down the main street with 50e bills in his wallet.

Stores get so little cash customers nowadays it is a pain when everyone pays with 50e or bigger bills. In fact our pharmacy frequently ran out of small bills to give and our bags to the bank were filled with 50e bills up the wazoo. It seems 20e bills have gone extinct and it fucks up stores' cash registers.

@dbsalk @bitterseeds @sickmatter @3goodthings OpenStreetMap works just fine for directions and navigation. There are plenty of apps which use it, for example Osmand~ on Android. It even works offline!

Organic Maps is an another alternative, but it is more focused on walking and bicycling rather than car navigation (it does that too but it is just beta).

I have no idea about iOS apps, but I bet there are some.

‘Tis the season to remember that all of Santa’s reindeer are female.

You see, males drop their antlers after the Autumn mating season, so since the world’s most celebrated reindeer are always depicted with spectacular antlers, we must assume that Ol’ Saint Nick’s entire intrepid team - including Rudolph - are female.

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@Sheril
They could also just be castrated males instead. That way Rudolph as a name makes sense too.

Castrated reindeer have also antlers year around.

I have confirmed that everything is better when eaten as a sandwich. Bean sandwich? Awesome. Ice-cream sandwich? Awesome. Cheese sandwich? Believe it or not, awesome!

I have hereby retired pasta and rice on my kitchen. From this day forward everything I eat is made in sandwich form!*
