there is an historical reason for germany to support israel:
germany aka formerly known as west germany has never reviewed its tight collaboration with apartheid south africa
when most other countries had already turned their back on apartheid south africa, it was west germany which breached every embargo and did business with the apartheid regime
given the current situation in palestine, germany is forced to deal with the lie underpinning its very existence: that germany allegedly has learned from its nazi past, and that germany thus has become a democratic, anti-racist country
it's been a long time since i have dropped a post > the bad news from palestine were too much ...
farhad's post truly moves me - i mean: let's not forget - for children, everything is a first time, and therefore, life is much harder for children than for grown up adults > that's why children should experience compassion, and they must not suffer from cruelties of any kind
this one thing > the other thing is: good people make yourself better
that does not mean to do everything right or having success all the time (succeeding is rare, failing is the norm) > it's about good intentions, being responsive to criticism, interacting in good faith
damn i can't see anything like that atm in palestine and israel ...
but i can still see it in the fediverse > i keep reading your posts - mostly on kbin.social whose community has grown on me > peeps at kbin ever so surprise me with their openness, accompanied by the absence of cynicism > i still keep learning from them, especially in terms of moderation
that said, i am still here, but i focus more on taking care of communities than posting myself > it remains to be seen whether i return to posting again
meron mendel is the director of anne frank educational centre, located in anne frank's place of birth frankfurt > mendel presents his vision of peace in the middle east, strongly advocating for an independent palestine
irritatingly, german journos inserted a huge mistake:
"Wir hören von der rechtsextremistischen Seite des israelischen Kabinetts die Forderung nach einer Vertreibung der Palästinenser aus Gaza, dass von 1,3 Millionen Palästinensern nur noch 100.000 bis 200.000 bleiben sollen. Vor dieser Vision kann es einem nur grauen."
english translation:> "We are hearing calls from the far-right side of the Israeli cabinet for the Palestinians to be expelled from Gaza, that only 100,000 to 200,000 of the 1.3 million Palestinians should remain. One can only shudder at this vision."
the number "1.3 million" is incorrect: gaza has 2.3 million inhabitants > i.e. it's a typo, but surely not a minor one > yet, journos at germany's most important news website would not bother to correct the typo, thereby allowing misinformation to spread #palestine#israel#germany#journalism
german discourse highlights very much israel's right to exist > in germany, the term "right to exist" is virtually limited to israel > in german discourse, palestinians' right to exist is notoriously absent - i have never come across it all my life #germany#israel#palestine
Everything I said about Germany being awesome re being a successful democracy and still banning nazi speech is undone by their backwards fascist support of Israel and hyena packing Greta
